Alastor's Friends are supporting characters in Hazbin Hotel: Journey to the Light.
- "He came to us when we were blue
And, with a smile, he proclaimed 'Do I have a deal for you!'
He gave us all these fancy toys
So we could make a lot of noise
Money, murder, booze, and whores
We felt as if the world was ours
But once our playtime was good and done
It was his turn to have some fun
Now we're forced to pay our debt
Until his requirements are met
The things we've seen, it's insane
Now we owe him everything!" - — Alastor's friends, singing to the hotel crew about how they became involved with Alastor.
They are a legion of mischievous and cursed sinners who are contracted to serve the Overlord and Radio Demon, Alastor, assisting him in his escapades and various plots. They are forced to follow his every instruction, from helping him torment his enemies, to mundane tasks such as cleaning the Hazbin Hotel, or acting as backup singers and the orchestra to his musical numbers.
Description[]
Alastor's friends come in many shapes, sizes, and forms. While the majority of them appear in the form of sharp-toothed voodoo dolls and shadow demons, some come in the form of shrunken heads or animals such as demonic snakes and deer. They appear to retain the powers Alastor gave them, and are capable of shapeshifting, teleporting, and manipulating fire, among other things. They are also seen with various weaponry such as knives, hatchets, maces, bats, and musical instruments. On their down time, they are typically seen getting into trouble or lurking around the Hazbin Hotel, or randomly terrorizing the denizens of Pentagram City. It is unknown just how many of them there are, and the Radio Demon is capable of summoning hundreds, or possible thousands of them simply by tapping his cane on the ground.
The vast majority of Alastor's "friends" were previously violent sinners, criminals, and wannabe Overlords who, in the past, made a deal with the Radio Demon in exchange for immense power and/or wealth. After the deal was made, Alastor would grant their request and bestow them with extraordinary power, which they typically used to indulge in various sins and engaged in criminal and various depraved activates such as gambling, murder, destruction, and exacting revenge. However, in doing so, they all end up giving Alastor exactly what he wanted and are unable to fully pay him back due to the sheer scale of their wrongdoings. Therefore, in order to pay off their debts, they become cursed and are enslaved by Alastor, transforming them into creatures of his design, and from that day forward must serve him until their debts are paid.
Despite their names, they are decidedly not Alastor's friends, and the Radio Demon clearly holds a degree of contempt towards them for their sinfulness, implying that he specifically made a deal with and cursed them as vengeance for their wrongdoings. He simply calls them his "friends" as he does not want to offend them. Though, it is possible that there is some degree of camaraderie between them, as they are shown to enjoy assisting Alastor with whatever menial task he has for them, and they are quick to stare down or attack anyone who offends their master, implying that might have grown to have been humbled by Alastor, though some could be more loyal to him than others. In addition, despite being his slaves and him somewhat loathing them, Alastor gives his minions a surprising amount of free will and is never shown mistreating them, preferring to instead make contemptuous comments at their expense, deviating from most Overlords who have a doctrine for abusing their henchmen. Alastor also allows them to run rampant all throughout the Pride Ring, at least until he requires their assistance.
Alastor's minions are generally disliked among the hotel crew, most of which view them as creepy or annoying. The only members of the crew they get along with are fellow minions Niffty and Husk. They are destructive and chaotic by default, terrorizing the denizens of the Pride Ring and getting into mischief in the Hazbin Hotel. They also enjoy playing, especially with Manco and the seven angels, and also enjoy playing pool and poker at Husk's bar. Some of the more violent and mischievous of Alastor's underlings have a habit of pranking or outright attacking the hotel crew. One shadow demon attempted to strangle Manco while his back was turned, only to be vaporized by the angel's protective holy aura.
