General Admiral Azazel of Wrath is a supporting antagonist in Hazbin Hotel: Journey to the Light.
He is a mentioned character in Chapter 4 and a supporting antagonist in Chapter 5. He is the secondary antagonist of Moxxie and Millie's arc of Chapter 5.
He was an arch-imp demon who served as the ruler of the Wrath Ring, the master-turned-arch-enemy of Scorpius, and the commander-in-chief of Hell, who controlled the Inferno's military and armed forces. He was a cruel and domineering tyrant who embodied the ethos of the Wrath Ring, ruled with an iron fist over Wrath up until his death, and believed that violence, power, and masculinity are the only virtues of a man.

Events of Hazbin Hotel: Journey to the Light
Chapter 5
In "Down at the Ranch", Blitzø, Moxxie, and a pregnant Millie travel to the Wrath Ring to check on Millie's family. Millie has been worrying about them constantly as they could be in danger with her being the one who killed Leviathan. Indeed, once the imps make it to their house, they discover that Millie's family has been taken, the victims of many mass imp kidnappings that have been occurring in the wake of Leviathan's death. Moxxie comes to the conclusion that Beelzebub is behind their disappearance, and an absolutely enraged Millie says that she will save her family and brutally kill the King of Gluttony for what he has done. Before they could leave the house, the three imps find themselves under attack by the local government of Wrath, led by a group of bounty hunters. To the surprise of everyone, Blitzø's former pet horse, Spindle, comes to his rescue before he could be killed. Spindle whisks Blitzø to safety, but Moxxie and Millie are abandoned in the process and overpowered by the soldiers, who throw burlap sacks on their heads and toss them into the back of a truck before driving to Azazel's Fortress.
Moxxie and Millie are then dragged inside Azazel's base to the King of Wrath himself. Upon seeing them, Azazel viciously bullies both of them, refusing to believe that a woman or someone as weak as Moxxie could be capable of killing a Sin. When Millie boasts to Azazel that she did, in fact, kill Leviathan and would happily do it again, Azazel decides to have Moxxie and Millie enslaved as his soldiers so that they could prove their vigor, though he clearly has no hope in them to survive. Azazel says that the Wrath Ring is currently in the middle of a full-scale revolution and that Moxxie and Millie will be used as living shields for the battalion assigned to destroy any rebellion. As Millie is being taken to her holding cell, she spots a depressed Scorpius walking to Azazel's room and tries to tenderly greet him, but he simply looks at her with a despondent expression before Azazel loudly calls him to the throne room.
The next day, Moxxie and Millie are forced into a battle between Azazel's army and the Uprising, an army of imps and Hellhounds seeking to end Azazel's reign and claim his throne for themselves. Refusing to let herself and Moxxie be used as shields, Millie takes charge and begins massacring the Uprising alongside Scorpius, emboldening Moxxie to fight alongside her. The battle ends in a victory for Azazel's army, though the imp king is less than pleased when his soldiers report Moxxie and Millie's efficiency. Still refusing to admit their capabilities, Azazel assigns Moxxie as his personal manservant to emasculate him, and assigns Millie to crush any resistance for the foreseeable future, refusing to free them until the Uprising is completely destroyed. Millie uses her new position to try and reconnect with Scorpius, while Moxxie devises a dangerous idea to play both sides in the war between Azazel and the Uprising so that he can eventually escape with Millie.
In "All's Fair in Wrath and War", Azazel continues using Millie as a weapon of war while keeping Moxxie at his fortress as his manservant, threatening to execute Moxxie if Millie refuses to annihilate his opposition. When Azazel catches Millie trying to speak to Scorpius on her off-time, he decides to have her put to work in the mines with his imp and hellhound slaves. Thanks to Scorpius and Millie, Azazel secures even more territory across Wrath; forests are burned down and stripped of rich resources, hundreds of soldiers and bystanders are decimated, and ranchers are forced off of their land and their livestock was taken.
With Moxxie under his thumb, Azazel relentlessly bullies the imp, ridiculing his love for Millie and musical theater, and berating him with homophobic and transphobic insults. Eventually, Azazel goes to his bedroom to get drunk and watch a sports game, which allows Moxxie to briefly escape his fortress to make a deal with the Uprising to take down Azazel.
In "Double Agent, Double Pain", over the next few days, the Uprising begins to secure more territory belonging to Azazel and conquer his armies, leaving Azazel himself extremely enraged. Azazel announces to his army his belief that the Uprising sent a "rat" into the castle, with his evidence being a trail his scouts had found that began at Azazel's fortress. He believes that the trail will lead to the Uprising's base and that they will launch an assault the next day, and he wants Moxxie to come along in case he needs a shield.
Unbeknownst to Moxxie, this was all a trap so that Moxxie would attempt to cover his tracks, allowing him to be ambushed by Azazel's men and knocked out. Azazel, his army, and Millie (who has a noose around her neck with his hands bound), then head out to the Uprising's base with the unconscious Moxxie, waking the imp up once they arrive at their destination. Azazel berates Moxxie for being the rat and calls him a "r*****" for thinking he could swindle him, rhetorically asking the imp how he became the ruler of Wrath in the first place. Azazel throws Moxxie his previously confiscated guns and orders him to kill all of the Uprising's armed forces, save for any liberated slaves so that Azazel can enslave them once more. When Moxxie hesitates to kill the soldiers he had bonded with, Azazel motivates him by suspending Millie in the air by her noose, painfully choking her. Now given no choice, Moxxie storms through the Uprising's base, massacring all of the unsuspecting soldiers with extreme reluctance as Azazel watched and raucously laughed with sadistic satisfaction that his primary opposition was being swiftly eradicated.
With most of the Uprising's soldiers wiped out, Azazel sent his men in to set their base ablaze, kill any survivors or the injured, and have any rescued slaves recaptured. His men then bring an injured Abaddon before him. Abaddon sees Moxxie with Azazel's army and curses the imp in a fit of complete hatred and betrayal. While the betrayed and enraged Abaddon is mercilessly excoriating Moxxie, Azazel abruptly executes Abaddon by decapitating him, holding his head in the air as his army cheers in victory.
After taking Abaddon's head as a trophy, Azazel brutally socks Moxxie in the face for his betrayal, nearly caving his face in, and violently pins the imp to the ground with his hooves, shattering Moxxie's ribs in the process. As Moxxie chokes on his blood and gasps for air, Azazel makes the decision to put him in a fight to the death against Scorpius as a punishment, before ordering his men to throw Moxxie to the dungeons until the death tournament begins. Azazel then mounted his horse and rode off into the desert.
In "See The Fire in Your Eyes", Azazel arrives at a colosseum to oversee the fight to the death between Moxxie and Scorpius, keeping Millie by his side, who is standing on a short drop with a noose around her neck. The fight begins and upon noticing that Scorpius was holding back, Azazel becomes enraged at his "weakness" and berates him, suspending Millie by her noose to motivate him. This motivates Scorpius to nearly effortlessly defeat the already-injured Moxxie. Even though Moxxie is beaten, Azazel orders Scorpius to kill him, as the weak deserve no place in Wrath. Though Scorpius seems to actually consider killing Moxxie out of fear, he remembers his last memory with his father before he was murdered by Azazel and instead angrily hurls his axe at his now-former master's position. Azazel just barely dives out of the axe's path as it explosively destroys his throne, the explosion incapacitating him, thus allowing Millie to escape his bonds and join Scorpius in a battle against Azazel's forces.
During the ensuing battle, Azazel recovers and is apoplectic about Scorpius' defiance and new-found determination. He removes his coat and reveals his giant bat wings, leaping from his balcony and unsheathing his spear. Upon landing on the battlefield, Azazel plunges his fire spear into the ground and splits the earth around them apart, separating Millie from the helpless Moxxie in the process.
Azazel flies to Moxxie's location and attempts to deal the killing blow, only for Scorpius to stop his attack, telling his former master that he would no longer harm his "friend". Azazel ridicules Scorpius for believing in friendship, before engaging his former slave in a vicious fight. Despite Scorpius' efforts, he was too worn down from decades of endless battles to fight the fresh Azazel, so the imp king dominates the fight and declares Scorpius to be just as weak as his father. However, Millie joins the battle, fighting alongside Scorpius. During the two-on-one confrontation, Scorpius throws Millie at Azazel when he takes flight, allowing her to crawl to his back and clip the imp's wings off using a knife, causing him to plunge violently to the ground. Even with Millie's assistance, Azazel still handily fends off both of them and punches Millie to the sidelines.
Azazel manages to disarm Scorpius of his axe and uses his spear to slice the warrior across his chest and stab him in the back of his legs. He wrestles Scorpius to the ground and manages to impale him in the chest with his spear, pinning him to the ground before mercilessly pounding his face bare-handed. During the bloody barrage, Scorpius catches one of Azazel's punches with his teeth before using his jaws to tear the imp king's right hand off, causing Azazel a tremendous amount of pain.
With Azazel distracted by his own pain, blood-lusted and emotional Mille leaps from behind Azazel and plunges Scorpius' axe into the imp king's shoulder, having retrieved it when it was knocked from Scorpius' hands. She hacks Azazel countless times with the axe while screaming like a bloodthirsty maniac with her eyes literally turning bright red, letting all of her rages out for the suffering Azazel has put her, Moxxie, and Scorpius through. Despite being positively covered in deep wounds, Azazel remains defiant to the very end and stops one of Millie's attacks with his spear with enough force to nearly disarm her of the axe. However, Millie's wrath is too much for Azazel to handle as she uses the axe to cut his left arm off, catching his spear as it was falling and stabbing him in the groin with it, effectively castrating him. Millie then lets out one final battle cry as she decapitates Azazel with Scorpius' axe, killing him once and for all.

Azazel embodied the worst qualities of toxic masculinity and Wrathian values, firmly believed that strength, ruthlessness, and power are the most important traits of character and that only the strong deserve to thrive and live in power, while the weak should be enslaved, killed, or used as living punching bags. He ruled with absolute power and refused to accept disobedience, enforced an "obey or be destroyed" outlook on his subjects, and allowed his armies to pillage and commit massacres in various settlements. A display of his social Darwinism, he had a habit of cleaning out his armies and slave by forcing certain demons to fight to the death for a chance to join his ranks.
He was failure-intolerant, at the ready to murder or mutilate his soldiers for their failures. A relentless warmonger, he found war to be a beautiful and manly thing and used his social power and manpower to keep Wrath in a constant state of war, controlling every single act of warfare, territorial genocide, and slaughter that occurred within the ring. He was so set in his ways that even Moxxie - who normally sees the best in folk - admitted that Azazel was completely unreasonable and Hell would be better off without him.
He was very arrogant and suffered from a god complex, constantly compared himself to Satan - Hell's equivalent to God -, and even referred to himself as Satan numerous times. Beyond being a warmongering tyrant, Azazel was a domineering bully who reveled in cruelly mistreating and humiliating everybody around him to make himself feel stronger; abusing Moxxie and kicking him around, hurling all kinds of misogynistic insults at Millie and even pulling her by the hair, and torturing and excoriating Scorpius on a regular basis. He underestimated his enemies and was incapable of admitting when he was wrong, as rather than admit that Millie was a strong soldier, slayer of Leviathan, and a capable woman, he instead decided to use the imp as a weapon of war and put her to work in the volcanos and mines out of anger for her proving him wrong. Azazel's arrogance prevents him from acknowledging his own shortcomings or errors as he would rather cling to his delusions of grandeur than admit when he's wrong, leading to further irrational behavior.
His dialogue was littered with profanity, and he sneered at concepts such as compassion, love, femininity, and friendship, brushing them all off to be weaknesses because he only valued violence and thought it to be the only solution to problems. His rejection of concepts like compassion and love showcases his lack of emotional depth. He views these traits as vulnerabilities that can be exploited by his enemies. Additionally, Azazel was one who believed that all men should do manly man things like fight, work out, and build things, otherwise, they are no different than women. He liked to incorporate the word "man" into nearly every one of his sentences, assuring others that he was a true man.
Unsurprisingly, Azazel was incredibly sexist. He hated women, refused to allow them in his ranks, and assumed that they know less than men by default. He proudly stated his belief that instead of being armed and participating in war, women should be cooking and cleaning the kitchen. Additionally, he exhibited both homophobic and transphobic traits as he ridiculed Scorpius by calling him homophobic slurs and derogatorily asked Moxxie if he was a "transsexual" after learning about the imp's passion for cooking and musical theater.
Azazel's intelligence is selective. While he is intelligent in certain areas, such as combat and manipulation, he lacks knowledge in other, more mundane domains, possibly due to his obsession with power and war. He seemed to think very little of things beyond war and, because of this, had a habit of saying outlandish things which make very little sense. He thought that Moxxie was assuming his sexual orientation simply because the imp asked him if he was bipolar, and all of the signs seen throughout his fortress are riddled with spelling and grammar errors. He showed contempt towards thinking in direct combat and believed that sheer, brute force was enough to overwhelm his opponent.
Still, despite his barbaric nature, Azazel was surprisingly intelligent in combat, switching from "toxic bodybuilder" to "linguistic demon lord" at the drop of a hat. He was an expert strategist who manipulated legions of demons into fighting for him by inspiring loyalty and fear and possessed immense tactical knowledge that allowed him to conquer Wrath in the first place. Despite lacking basic, common knowledge, he was able to trick Moxxie into revealing himself as a rat and double agent by tricking him into covering his tracks which would lead to the Uprising's hideout. This suggests that Azazel is far more clever than he appears and plays dumb to trick his potential enemies into letting their guards down.
Beneath his aggressive exterior, Azazel likely harbors deep-seated insecurities. His constant need to assert dominance and maintain power might stem from a fear of being exposed or losing control.
Powers and Abilities
Unique Powers
- Demonic Power: As the commander of Hell's military and an arch-imp, Azazel was immensely powerful, easily wiping out entire armies and anyone who dared to oppose him. An example of his power, he was able to intimidate, brutalize, and mutilate Scorpius, a warlord who has allegedly slain dozens of Exterminators and erased legions upon legions of demons.
- Flight: Azazel possessed massive bat wings which he could use to fly through the air. He could use his wings to give himself an aerial advantage and attack his foes with his hellfire abilities.
- Nigh-Invulnerability: Azazel possessed tremendous durability, with almost nothing being capable of harming him outside of blessed weapons.
- Pyrokinesis: Azazel was capable of manipulating hellfire and lava capable of reducing other demons to ash, and burning and melting civilizations to the ground. He was also able to engulf himself in hellfire while teleporting. During his battle with Scorpius and Millie, he was able to fire torrents of flames from his fists and even conjured flaming asteroids in his hands to hurl at them.
- Supernatural Strength: Due to his workout ethic and belief that only the physically strongest demon should rule, Azazel possessed comical levels of physical strength and was easily the strongest imp in Hell, surpassing even Scorpius in terms of sheer brute force. He was able to cause mini Hellshakes through his foot stomps and was capable of tearing other demons in half and punching through them like paper. He displayed his immense strength when he plunged his spear into the ground and split apart the earth around him, causing the colosseum he was in to collapse, and while fighting Millie and Scorpius, he smashed the ground with enough force to send the two warriors flying back like toys.
- Supernatural Speed and Reflexes: Belying his immense size, Azazel was fast enough to dodge Scorpius' axe when the Hellcat threw it in his direction at an intense velocity. He was also able to keep up with Millie in battle despite her speed.
Abilities
- Authority: Azazel held supreme authority over the Wrath Ring, which allowed him to establish any laws he desired or punished anyone he wants. As Hell's commander-in-chief, he had complete command over Hell's entire military, wielding absolute, authoritarian control.
- Master Combatant: Azazel was perhaps the mightiest warrior in the Wrath Ring; an extremely skilled, dirty, and brutal fighter with centuries worth of experience and knowledge. He combined boxing, wrestling, and spear-fighting in his combat to overwhelm his opponent. He displayed his prowess in combat by defeating Scorpius with nearly no effort in every one of their confrontations, and even Millie, a deadly and extremely skilled killer, and assassin, could barely help Scorpius keep him on the ropes.
- Intimidation: Azazel cultivated an air of fear everywhere he went, his mere name struck terror in the hearts of even Wrath's greatest warriors, including Scorpius, who was so terrified of Azazel that he initially could not bring himself to protect Millie in front of his former master.
- Strategic Brilliance: Despite his limitations, Azazel possesses strategic brilliance in combat and manipulation. He uses this intelligence to deceive and control others, allowing him to achieve and maintain power.

- Fire Spear: Azazel's primary weapon was a jet-black spear imbued with fire. He was able to summon the spear at any time, which allowed him to hurl his spear at his desired target, and made it magically appear back into his hand. The spear was designed to imbue anything it impaled with fire or outright cause environments to explode, which made the spear a powerful weapon of mass destruction.

Scorpius
Scorpius was Azazel's former lieutenant. Azazel enslaved Scorpius when he was a pup after decimating his home and used him against his warrior father as a bargaining chip, threatening to murder his son if he did not join his ranks. Eventually, Azazel murdered Scorpius' father once he had outlived his usefulness, and put Scorpius in a death tournament against other enslaved pups and warriors in a bid to clean out the weak. After Scorpius was the only one who came out alive, Azazel promoted him to his lieutenant.
Azazel saw Scorpius as a stupid brute and thought that made him the perfect weapon because he obeyed what he is told without thinking. Only valued him as a grunt and weapon of war, used him to wipe out and enslave armies, civilizations, and any opposition. He was cold, emotionally abusive, and cruel towards Scorpius, with the warrior claiming in a conversation with Millie that his scars came not from battle, but from Azazel torturing him. Oddly, Scorpius did not seem bothered by Azazel's treatment of him, likely due to growing up with the Wrath Ring mindset that affection and love were weaknesses and that it would be unnatural for Azazel to actually care about him.
After Scorpius finally stood up for himself and threw the axe at his former master-turned-arch-enemy to slay him, which caused an explosion, although Azazel survived the explosion caused by the angelic axe. During their fight, Azazel angrily taunted the Lord of Wrath that he is just as weak as his father. When Azazel knocked him to the ground and impaled him with his spear into his heart, the King of Imps attempted to mercilessly beat Scorpius to death with his bare fists to which Scorpius reacted by biting his right hand off, causing Azazel an absolutely insane amount of pain and Millie, in an absolute rage, taking advantage of this by attacking and eliminating Azazel once and for all by decapitating him.
Moxxie
Upon their first meeting, Azazel did not think much of Moxxie but showed contempt towards the imp's physical weakness and ethics. He arranged for Moxxie and Millie to die in a war, but when the two imps successfully fought back the opposition, Azazel forced Moxxie to be his "manservant", all so he could emasculate, abuse, and taunt Moxxie at every chance he got.
When the Uprising began securing territory previously taken by Azazel, the imp king suspected that Moxxie was working behind his back, so he arranged a trap to confirm his suspicions, openly announcing in front of Moxxie that his soldiers had found a trail that could lead to the Uprising's base. Upon his suspicions being confirmed, Azazel ordered Moxxie to slaughter the Uprising as a punishment, threatening Millie should he disobey him. After Moxxie executed the Uprising with extreme reluctance, Azazel still brutally assaulted Moxxie in a fit of rage, nearly killing him. However, Azazel saw more potential in using Moxxie as a soldier, so he arranged for Moxxie to fight Scorpius in a fight-to-the-death so Moxxie could earn his masculinity.
During the ensuing fight, even when Moxxie when beaten by Scorpius, Azazel still ruthlessly orders Scorpius to kill the defenseless imp, and attempted to finish Moxxie of himself when Scorpius defied him.
Millie
When Azazel heard rumors that Millie was responsible for Leviathan's death, he laughed it off and was insulted by the notion that a woman could have killed a Sin. He was so insulted, in fact, that he murdered the messenger who told him this and sent a group of bounty hunters to capture Millie. When the bounty hunters returned to the king with Millie and Moxxie, Scorpius eagerly taunted Millie, refusing to believe the rumors. He punished Millie and Moxxie by forcing them to fight for Azazel's army in a war against the Uprising. Azazel's forces won the battle largely due to Millie's ferocity, which Azazel did not take kindly to.
Enraged that Millie had proved him wrong, Azazel forced her to do his bidding by fighting in dozens of wars and performing soul-crushing slave labor when not fighting, threatening to kill Moxxie if she disobeyed him. Eventually, he used Millie to force Moxxie into decimating the Uprising by tying a noose around her neck and suspending her in the air with said noose until her husband obeyed.
Upon forcing Moxxie and Scorpius to fight to the death, Azazel put Millie's life on the line, threatening that if neither one of them was dead by the end of their fight, Millie would be hanged. To the very end, Azazel refused to admit Millie was a capable warrior even after she escaped from her noose and slayed nearly all of Azazel's men.

Moxxie: (slurring his words with small, screeching demonic birds flying in circles over his head) Das such a bootiful sound! (looks at Mille, still stunned) Are I'm am in Heaven..? (he falls unconscious)
Azazel: (looming over Moxxie and Millie) If you two disobey me or try to pull anythin' funny, I'll knock the sand outta both of your vaginas, ya hear?! (to Scorpius) Hey, f--! (Scorpius looks over to Azazel with an emotionless expression) Why the long face? I thought you loved killin'! You ain't gettin' soft on me now, huh?! (he clenches his fist, which makes Scorpius recoil slightly)
Scorpius: ...No, my lord...
Azazel: That's what I thought. Get outta here, pansy.
Millie: (to Azazel) DON'T TREAT HIM LIKE THAT!!!
Azazel: (he grabs Millie by her hair and holds her in the air) And what are you gonna do, girl? Huh?! (Azazel laughs as Millie growls viciously and futilely tries to claw at him; he harshly throws her to the ground as Scorpius sadly watches helplessly before leaving) Go join the ranks!
