- "What's that, Basil? I should gouge his eyes out and use his skull for a cup? Oh, you sadistic devil, you! C'mon, Pluto! Let's give Basil a hand!"
- — Lucifer to Basil while torturing Pluto, and before cutting Pluto's hand off.
Basil is a recurring character in Hazbin Hotel: Journey to the Light.
He is one of many demonic snakes owned by Lucifer Magne, serving as the King of Hell's favorite pet and companion who accompanies the King of Hell nearly everywhere he goes. Despite seeming like a mere accessory, Basil has a symbiotic connection with his master and thus is of some practical use for him, communicating with Lucifer telepathically, and can be used by the King of Hell as surveillance. He can most often be found coiled around the brim of his master's top hat.
Personality
Basil is the most favored of Lucifer's numerous pet snakes, and the one who most accompanies Lucifer in his schemes. Basil is quite fond of his master, being fiercely loyal to him, and hissing menacingly at anyone who slights him. The serpent is implied to be just as sadistic and sinister as Lucifer himself, apparently giving the King of Hell advice on torturing his victims, laughing before eating live mice, and grinning deviously whenever his master is conspiring. Basil can communicate with Lucifer telepathically, whereas to everyone else he is bestial and only makes hissing noises.
His emotions towards anything are closely synchronized with his master's, whether it's felt towards the King of Hell's subordinates or enemies.
Appearance
Basil is a light purple snake with bright green, pupilless eyes, and sharp fangs.
Powers
- Constriction: Basil can strangle and subdue his prey and victims by wrapping himself around his victim and constricting around them, either holding them in place or strangling them to death overtime.
- Hypnosis: Basil can put his victims into a hypnotic trance using his eyes. However, the victim must make prolonged eye contact with him to do so.
- Symbiotic Connection to Lucifer: Basil has a symbiotic connection to his master, allowing him to communicate with the King of Hell. This also allows Lucifer to see through Basil's eyes.
- Petrification: Basil has a petrifying gaze that he can use to turn his victims to stone voluntarily.
- Telepathy: Basil can speak to Lucifer, and Lucifer alone, telepathically.
- Teleportation: Basil can teleport anywhere he wants, dissolving into hellfire and appearing in the same element while doing so.
- Venomous Bite: Basil has an extremely potent, supernatural venom in his fangs that instantly kills anyone he bites. However, the victim's brain does not immediately realize this. Until it does, victims of Basil's venom fall into a hallucinogenic coma where they become psychologically trapped in a candy-covered land that initially seems like paradise, but slowly devolves into the victim's most traumatic experiences and a nightmare sequence that only ends until they are given an antidote, or their brain realizes they are dead.
Relationships
Owner
Lucifer Magne
Basil is very affectionate and loyal to his master, aiding the King of Hell in all of his plots and giving him advice on how to torture his victims. Lucifer dotes on Basil constantly, talking to it in private.
Other
Corey and Peel
Basil shares a mutual disdain for Corey and Peel. Like Lucifer, Basil is annoyed by Corey and Peel's incompetence and is shown to be amused by their pain, grinning whenever Lucifer punishes or strikes him. Basil enjoys striking at, constricting, and biting the two apple angels whenever they try to feed him. In return, Corey and Peel despise Basil in silence.
Trivia
