Demons are a race of supernatural creatures who came to be after Lucifer's fall and the creation of Hell. They act as the natural species of Hell as well. Demons are often split up into hierarchial positions that determine their status in life. They are mainly comprised of hellborn and sinners. They are the opposites to Angels.
History[]
It can be assumed that demons came to be after Lucifer's fall and the creation of Hell. Many of these demons are notably demon royalty. Demons were split up into hierarchial categories and deemed on what they were born as, such as the Ars Goetia and Imps. Sinners were shortly introduced due to evil spreading to Earth, and shortly afterwards Overlords were introduced as well.
Description[]
Demons usually come in different shapes and sizes that depend on the subspecies that they come from. Demons such as Imps, Incubi and Succubi usually have horns, with Imps having horns that define their gender, males getting black and white stripes with equal length, while females usually get black horns with thin white lines. Hellhounds usually have anthropomorphic canine like appearances and are sued mainly for slavery and as a status of wealth among higher ranked demons. Pride Ring demons (which are mainly sinners who come from Earth after death) have appearances that widen in variety. Sinners often have distinct appearances that are special to them and them along that is usually gained in semblance to how one died, their bad choices in life, and what they may not like about themselves. Sinners can also have animal motifs, such as Alastor, who has antlers on his head and hooves for feet, or Valentino, who resembles a moth with his antenna and wings. Sinners can also have motifs that aren't all about deers, like a topic such as technology, like Vox, whose head is a flat-screen TV and upgradeable. Some sinners can even manifest non-biologically at times.
Demons are often divided under a racial spectrum that defines how they are treated. Demons royalty (I.e Ars Goetia, Seven Deadly Sins, etc) are treated with utmost respect and viewed as creatures to be feared, while the lowest ranking demons like Imps and Hellhounds are treated like scrap and left for the dirt, often either being sold into slavery, or forced to fend for themselves under the guise of royalty, though some exceptions have been made with Imps like Fizzarolli, who formerly worked under Mammon and still holds a relationship with Asmodeus, though exceptions aren't common and are only made for them as other demons are too scared to point it out, as opposed to the relationship between Blitzo and Stolas.
Demons are mainly shown to be morally gray or at the very worst harboring zero morals whatsoever. Defined by some of the crime in Hell, specifically that of in the Greed Ring, demons are constantly at war with each other and often kill one another in order to get what they want. In the Pride Ring, sinners have no hesitation when selling their souls to Overlords or other higher beings to gain more power of their fellow sinner, and Overlords themselves have no trouble mistreating and abusing the souls that they own in order to inspire an image of fear across the Pride Ring that keeps every demon in line.
Subspecies[]
- Hellborn Demons: Demons native to Hell. Hellborn may possess a wide range of supernatural abilities or none at all, depending on their individual backgrounds.
- Ascended Demons: Humans who ascended to demonhood, typically by selling their souls to deal-makers in Hell. Upon damning themselves, they can walk among the living as demons, though they are still susceptible to being killed and, after their death, typically must live a life of servitude to their soul owners.
- Imps: Imps are diminutive demons native to the Wrath Ring. They possess lizard-like and devilish traits, often recognized by their small stature, red skin, horns, and barbed tails. Their sizes can very to slightly larger than an average human child, to being only two feet tall. Considered among the lowest in Hell's hierarchy, they are typically limited to servitude roles and lack any recognized rights. Compared to other demons, they are notably weak, with most lacking supernatural abilities apart from immunity to earthly flames and extended longevity.
- Arch-Imp: Arch-Imps are a rare and more formidable type of imp, distinguished by their larger stature and intimidating presence. Unlike average imps, they often possess an array of supernatural abilities, including enhanced strength and exceptional combat adaptability.
- Hellhounds: Native to Sloth, Hellhounds are anthropomorphic demons with canine or canine-like features, resembling specific breeds or species. Their appearances range from wolves to traditional domesticated dog breeds such as Dobermans, poodles, or huskies. In Hell's hierarchy, they are regarded as the lowest of the low, a perception heavily shaped by Belphegor's use of them as performers in the Sins' circus. Despite this, Hellhounds often possess abilities such as enhanced speed, superior vision, and the power to create human disguises.
- Hellcats: Hellcats are a subspecies of anthropomorphic demons characterized by feline or feline-like traits. Similar to Hellhounds, they are regarded as low in Hell's hierarchy and are often treated as pets, with many Chernobles keeping them as enslaved companions. Hellcats are extinct in the Wrath Ring, having been entirely wiped out by the arch-imp Azazel during his conquest.
- Succubi/Incubi: Succubi and Incubi are demons native to the Lust Ring, endowed with abilities designed to amplify sexual desire in others, particularly humans. They can adopt human forms to seamlessly integrate into human society and are frequently assigned by the King of Lust, Asmodeus, to propagate lust and hedonism on Earth. These demons typically possess wings for flight, pink or red skin, and barbed tails, further emphasizing their seductive and otherworldly nature.
- Baphomets: Baphomets are native to the Sloth Ring, and are distinguished by their anthropomorphic, goat-like appearances, often having a melted candle on their heads.
- Chernabogs: Chernabogs are massive, nocturnal, bat-like demons renowned for their grotesque appearances and terrifying demeanor. More bestial than most demons, they rarely speak and typically dwell in Hell's forests or mountains. Highly aggressive by nature, they are known to attack other demons on sight.
- Infestors: Infestors are demons originating from Envy, having gained their power through a pact with the Von Eldritch family. True to their name, they are permitted to cross into and infest Earth, where they torment human souls. Infestors possess ghoulish abilities, including phasing through objects and inducing traumatic visions in their victims, making them particularly fearsome entities.
- Sleep Paralysis Demons: Nocturnal demons that strike humans and sinners when they least expect it, often in their sleep. They are often dismissed as a myth by most. Sir Pentious mentions that he is regularly haunted by a sleep paralysis demon. Because of his loneliness, he's grown attached to it and affectionately named it "Pippi".
- Sinners: Sinners are human souls condemned to Hell after death. Unlike Hellborn demons, Sinners often possess a diverse array of supernatural abilities, including powerful regeneration, an infinite soul, and unique powers tied to their afterlife vessels. They can only be permanently destroyed by divine power or angelic weaponry, making them particularly resilient compared to other denizens of Hell. Due to laws enforced against them by the Sins, sinners are unable to leave the Pride Ring legally, though they have still learned underground means of doing so.
- Canadian Sinners: Sinners who are specifically Canadian and can only be found in the city of Heck. They are notoriously more polite than base sinners.
- Overlords: Native to Pride, Overlords are sinners or demons who ascended to great power, primarily through dealmaking. They are essentially superpowered mob bosses or lords, controlling different districts and sectors across Pentagram City and the Pride Ring.
Powers[]
- Demonic Power: Demons, mainly sinners and demon royalty (with the exceptions of little hellborn) are shown to be able to harness demonic power hidden deep within the recesses of themselves. Sinners are usually reborn with demonic power after they die and end up in Hell, and are usually keen on using them. The amount of power a demon can harness varies on their hierarchial positions. Demons like sinners are usually able to overpower an average hellborn as opposed to higher ranked demons. Though they have been able to break their limits. Demons like Overlords have been shown to possess vast amounts of demonic power that have made them strong enough to rival an average sinner and usually come out victorious under pressure. Hellborn are also capable of gaining demonic power, and even becoming Overlords themselves as shown with Missi Zilla, Rosie, and Sock and Buskin, as Missi Zilla was able to sell her soul to Lucifer while Sock and Buskin got their power through unknown means yet still retain their status as power Overlords. Their counterparts, Warlords, powerful arch-imps that have gained their own power in their own right, are also equipped with demonic power that can rival the average hellborn, though Overlords are shown to be far more superior to them through their manipulative deal making skills. Royalty such as the Ars Goetia are also blessed with immense demonic power, easily able to put up a fight against the Overlords, though theorized that Alastor might but up a good fight against Stolas. The Ars Goetia are usually given demonic power beyond that of a sinner or hellborn's wildest dreams, allowing them to command multiple legions at a time.
- Demonic Transformation: Demons are shown to be able to access and switch into a far more scary and eldritch demonic form when going through emotional cuts or in times of great need. Almost every demon has a full demon form, especially sinners.
- Fire Immunity: All demons are immune to earthly fire while still being vulnerable to hellfire. This allows them to endure earthly flame and show no signs of discomfort.
- Immortality: Demons, unless slain with angelic weaponry, are shown to be biologically immortal and cannot die. Sinners are shown to be unaffected by old age, as they are stuck in the age in which they died and cannot progress through the age cycle. Royalty, on the other hand, seem to be capable of aging until they eventually stop at adulthood and do not progress as well. They are shown to have incredibly long lifetimes, as shown with the Seven Deadly Sins, a circus troupe that also leads Hell. All demons can be slain by angelic weaponry though, as when Leviathan was slain by Millie with a holy axe, and Beelzebub cannibalized by thousands of starving imps after having been incapacitated by an angelic energy cannon. Belephegor is also a testament to this as he was shown to be destroyed three separate times before he finally died. Other than that, mainly sinners are able to endure harsh amounts of punishment and violence inflicted upon them and still survive.
- Regeneration: Sinners are naturally able to regenerate parts of their body if they are injured or if the part of their body is completely lost.
