The Hazbin Hotel, alternatively the Happy Hotel and formerly the Poison Apple, is a sentient hotel and rehabilitation center owned by the Princess of Hell, Charlie Magne. The fundamental goal of the hotel revolved around the transformation of its morally wayward occupants, paving their way to redemption and eventual ascension to Heaven. Positioned within the Pride Ring of Pentagram City, the hotel finds its place in what was once the vacation residence of the Magne family.
The hotel initially met its demolishment when Leviathan attempted to flood the seven rings, which resulted in its complete obliteration. However, through the help of Roo, the establishment was not only revived but also expanded to grander proportions. This remarkable turnaround not only revitalized the hotel but also propelled it to unprecedented success, facilitated by the united endeavors of the hotel crew in strategic business promotion and advertising.
Description
Originally named the Poison Apple and serving as a vacation retreat for the esteemed Magne family, the Hazbin Hotel fell into neglect due to its unfortunate proximity to the sinful denizens of Hell. Consequently, it slipped into a state of severe dilapidation. Both its outer facade and interior bore the marks of neglect, adorned with cobwebs, displaying a weathered countenance, bearing remnants of squatters, and even plagued by a rat influx. However, a turning point arrived with the involvement of Alastor, who assumed a role in managing the hotel. Leveraging his reality-altering abilities, the Radio Demon breathed new life into the establishment. Simultaneously, the addition of Niffty as the housekeeper contributed significantly to the hotel's transformation, ushering in a much more vibrant and dignified ambiance.
The hotel extends a comprehensive array of amenities to its occupants upon check-in, encompassing complimentary lodging, safeguarding against the perils and menaces prevalent in Hell, access to cost-free medical care, and provision of nourishment. A generous weekly stipend is also granted to both patients and staff, contingent upon their active commitment to personal growth or their contributions to the hotel's operations. Inhabitants are held to a well-defined set of guidelines during their stay, including abstaining from drug use, refraining from wielding weapons, and avoiding engagement in explicit language or sexual conduct. It's worth noting that even though the establishment boasts a bar, excessive alcohol consumption is also proscribed. The conduct of patients beyond the hotel's premises is under scrutiny, as they serve as representatives of the establishment. Persistent violations of these rules, despite repeated warnings, result in disciplinary measures such as room confinement lasting several days and intensified therapy sessions. Each patient is furnished with a structured timetable outlining activities such as breakfast, group interactions, therapeutic sessions, leisure intervals, and designated sleeping hours. Group endeavors like yoga sessions, movie nights, and games are thoughtfully orchestrated to foster positive behavior and cultivate camaraderie amongst the patients. Those who exhibit commendable conduct are rewarded with tokens of appreciation, ranging from confections and stickers to warm embraces and delectable treats like cupcakes.
The hotel extends its hospitality to individuals regardless of the gravity of their transgressions; however, a vital stipulation mandates that all patrons must genuinely commit to their own redemption journey, avoiding mere reliance on the establishment's benevolence. While the doors are open to all, the premise underscores active engagement in self-improvement. In instances where a guest exhibits an apparent lack of determination to mend their ways, the option of eviction is considered. This protocol was underscored in the case of Death, who was eventually expelled from the establishment due to his persistent resistance to rehabilitation. Despite multiple opportunities granted by Charlie to amend his behavior, his unwillingness to reform became irrefutably evident.
A prevailing sentiment within Hell's society casts a shadow of disfavor upon the hotel, culminating in a continuous stream of derision and censure from the majority of its inhabitants. Particularly noteworthy figures such as Lucifer Magne and Katie Killjoy contribute to this ongoing tide of mockery. Notably, the triumvirate of Overlords, recognized as the Vees, actively exploit their influential platforms to disseminate false narratives about the establishment, thereby intensifying efforts to discourage the populace of Pride from engaging with the hotel. The concept of rehabilitating sinners finds itself mired in skepticism and ridicule among demons and even those who have transgressed, rendering it an idea that is commonly dismissed as implausible and absurd.

Trivia
- The hotel's name is a play on the word "has been", which is used to describe someone who used to be popular and successful but is considered antiqued and irrelevant in the present. Since "Hazbin Hotel" is the name Alastor gave the hotel after his arrival, this is most likely the Radio Demon's way of mocking, dehumanizing, and degrading the hotel's occupants and anyone who checks into the hotel.
- The hotel's theme song would either be "Grand Hotel" by Regina Spektor, or "Hotel California" by Eagles.
- A running gag throughout the series is Alastor and Charlie arguing of the hotel's name, with the former deeming it the "Hazbin Hotel" while the latter prefers it to be the "Happy Hotel".
- Though Carmilla Carmine and Lucifer can see through all of the eyeballs across the Pride Ring, they cannot see inside the hotel due to Lux's influence cloaking the interior.
- The hotel has multiple "venting rooms", which essentially serves as reality show-style confessionals. Throughout the series, it will cut to characters speaking out loud, framed to seem as if they're speaking to the audience. During these moments, they share personal thoughts, feelings, or reactions about the insane events unfolding on the series.
- According to a plaque within the hotel, the establishment was founded in 245 AD.
- The hotel is codenamed "Purgatory" by the Insurgency.
- Octavia has a reserved room at the hotel for whenever her home life becomes too overwhelming, though she has never actually paid a visit to the hotel.
- At one point, Husk claims to Villa that the hotel has rules against pets, though he doesn't go into what those rules actually are.
- The eyeball on top of the Hazbin Hotel blinks numerous times throughout the series, implying that the hotel itself is alive.
- The hotel has a set of rules that the patients within must abide by. They read:
- No drugs, weapons, or excessive problematic language.
- No committing arson.
- No inciting riots.
- No sex with random strangers.
- Always have a positive attitude.
- No bullying.
- No experimenting on patients and staff.
- Treat everyone with respect.
