Hazbin Hotel: Journey to the Light Fanon Wiki

"You mean, where the sinners are punished? Where everyone gets what they deserve? Where I rule because I'm better than everyone else? Where human souls are rounded up and laughed at like the freaks they are? Where the weak are crushed by the strong? Where you will spend the rest of your pathetic afterlife in complete depression and agony? Hmmm... I like that last one!"
Lucifer on Hell.

Hell is a supernatural, infernal afterlife dimension and the primary setting of Hazbin Hotel: Journey to the Light.

It was created by the fallen prince of Heaven, Lucifer Magne, shortly following the War in Heaven, where it eventually became the home for all demons, and the seemingly eternal prison for sinners: former humans who died filled with sin.

History[]

Background[]

Shortly after his banishment from Heaven, Lucifer Morningstar created seven planets to serve as the personal circus for himself and his wife, Lilith; a paradise where they could revel in their love and talents. Lucifer mesmerized the realm with his Seven Deadly Sins, circus troupe, while Lilith's melodies stirred hope among its damned inhabitants. However, their dream was marred by tragedy as each attempt to conceive ended in stillbirth, plunging them into despair. Undeterred, they clung to hope, longing for a living child. Their resilience bore fruit with the arrival of Charlotte, a beacon of their enduring affection.

Yet, Lilith's happiness was fleeting as her past come back to haunt her; the night of Charlotte's birth, as she lovingly watched over her child in fear of her dying in her sleep, the Root of Evil - the one who gave Lilith life and form - appeared. Evil revealed that it had cursed Lilith, condemning her offspring with Lucifer to lifelessness, except for Charlotte, whose existence hung by a fragile thread. To spare her daughter, Lilith struck a pact with Evil: her music would no longer inspire hope but foster chaos, fueling Evil's power. Despite the cost, Charlotte survived, even as Hell descended into depravity, fueled by sin and malevolence.

Lucifer continued to use Hell to trap souls that were rejected by Heaven and effectively keep them imprisoned and under his control, hoping that his and the Sins' performances would inspire loyalty and admiration in their subjects. However, the Sins would end up have a brutal and bitter falling out over how they wanted to rule Hell. This resulted in a devastating war within Hell between the Sins, save for Lucifer, in which they all vied for control over the rings of Hell. It ended with each of them being appointed as the ruler of one Ring by Lucifer, after he got bored of their conflict.

At some point after Hell's establishment, the Archangel of Death, Azrael, established an annual event which came to be known as Extermination Day, which involved the mass genocide of the Pride Ring's population to prevent the Root of Evil from growing too powerful and to prevent Lucifer from growing an army to overthrow God, though the operation also served as a temporary solution to Hell's apparent overpopulation problem. Over the years, the Princess of Hell, Charlie Magne, aimed to stop this event by opening the Hazbin Hotel, an operation that offers sinners a change to redeem themselves and ascend to Heaven after their rehabilitation.

Events of Hazbin Hotel: Journey to the Light[]

Chapter 1[]

In "Gift of God", the Pride Ring is temporarily thrown into chaos after Heaven's Light crashes down into the outskirts of Pentagram City with such velocity that it split the fabric of Hell's very sky apart and caused a blackout throughout the entirety of Pride. Charlie is able to recover the Light before sinners could locate it, and talks it into using its powers to repair the damage it indirectly caused. This incident causes a chain of events that effectively kickstarts the entire series into motion.

Chapter 4[]

In "It's Never Too Late", both Hell's infrastructure and society is left devastated and partially flooded following Leviathan's attempt to flood the seven rings during his attempted hostile takeover.

Chapter 5[]

In "Exenut Omnes", shortly after Roo's release from her prison, she proceeds to destroy the Pentagram City Clock Tower, summoning malevolent roots across the seven rings to tether all of them using her massive roots. Very shortly after tethering the entirety of the seven rings, she summons trash and conjure minions to spread terror across the realm, while draining the realm's energy to start chaos and suffering all across it.

Blitzø immediately use the Asmodean crystal to escape Hell alongside the hotel crew and I.M.P, leaving the fate of their home ambiguous.

Description[]

Deviating from most depicted of Hell in media, this version of Hell is not a fiery realm of eternal, infernal torture that Hell is traditionally depicted as. This Hell is more like one big circus, with Lucifer as the ringleader and sinners as the "freaks". Hell is divided into seven planets, called Rings, each one with its own geography and climate. While demons can freely travel across the seven rings using an elaborate elevator system, it is impossible for sinners to travel beyond Pride without clearance from a Sin or member of the Magne family.

Hell is noted to have treacherous weather; Katie Killjoy mentions "screaming tornados", and Angel Dust mentions that almost all rain in the Pride Ring is acidic. Blitzø also mentions the Hell-equivalent phenomenon of an earthquake: a hellshake or a hellquake.

Hell has its own geography with many different climates within, including jungles, winter tundras, and forests, as well as its own native creatures. While some rings like Pride, Lust, and Greed are dominated by cityscapes, rings such as Gluttony possess jungles and overall has a tropical appearance with many beaches. The Envy Ring is also almost entirely comprised of seas with only a few small islands throughout, while the Wrath Ring resembles a giant desert. The Sloth Ring is also mentioned to have snow.

Hell's society somewhat mirrors that of Earth, as it possesses services such as police and fire departments. Hell also has television with numerous shows such as Hell Idol. These are likely as a result of sinners influencing demon culture with their presence. In addition, Hell also has various school systems, notably Hell School, a prestigious academy where young Hellborn demons are educated about the history of Hell and its rulers. The Greed Ring is also mentioned to have clown colleges. It is also mentioned by Lucifer that Hell has a prison system, mainly consisting of those who have violated the biased laws established by Hell's rulers. Hell also has some religion, though the worship of God is strictly prohibited. Demons primarily worship Satan, who is viewed as Hell's version of God.

Although Hell is almost lawless due to Lucifer's preference to "keep Hell chill", there are a small set of laws that, if broken, are punishable by imprisonment, torture, or death. These include worshipping God in any way or mentioning His name in Lucifer's presence; causing large-scale chaos on Earth that could potentially draw attention to the existence of Hell; or disobeying an order from the Magne family or the Seven Deadly Sins. It is also illegal for an angel to enter or be brought into Hell without proper clearance. Anyone caught breaking these laws is often punished inhumanely and with extreme prejudice.

Hierarchy[]

Hell's society is dictated by a rigid hierarchy that was created by Lucifer and the Seven Deadly Sins. This hierarchy is blatantly defined by power and/or status, placing those considered poor, weak, or undesirable at the very bottom, such as imps.

  1. The Magne family: All of Hell is ruled by the Magne family, which consists of Hell's creator and king, the fallen angel and sin of Pride, Lucifer Magne, who established said hierarchy; his wife and the Queen of Hell, Lilith Magne; and their daughter and heir apparent, Princess Charlotte Magne.
  2. Seven Deadly Sins: Directly below the royal family are the Seven Deadly Sins, consisting of Mammon, Lucifer, and Asmodeus (and formerly Leviathan Von Eldritch, Beelzebub, and Belphegor before their deaths), who rule preside over a ring of Hell.
  3. Ars Goetia: Below the Sins are the Ars Goetia, a royal clan of extremely powerful and affluent avian/feline/ungulate demons with large standings in Hell's society due to their power and history with Lucifer Magne. They are led by their king and the father of all the original Goetia demons, Paimon.
  4. Chernobles: Preceding the Goetia, there are an undefined group of upper-class demons of privilege, royalty, and wealth, such as Cal and Fin. They are often referred to as "Chernobles".
  5. Overlords/Warlords: Overlords are powerful demons (mainly sinners) who rule over sections and territories of the Pride Ring, managing businesses, reigning over subcultures of demons, or gaining power through turf wars and deal-making. In the same position in the hierarchy are the Warlords: powerful arch-imps that are essentially the Wrath ring's version of the overlords, despite the overlords being far more powerful than them.
  6. Kingpins: Demons and sinners based in the Pride Ring who manage businesses or criminal organizations/activity, though they lack the supernatural powers of the Overlords.
  7. Sinners: Mortal souls who were reborn in Hell following their deaths. Due to Lucifer's longing to have power over human souls, all sinners are confined to the Pride Ring. Despite being restricted to the Pride Ring, sinners live eternally and are capable of accessing powers most Hellborn demons can never hope to achieve, therefor they retain a higher rank than the Hellborn.
  8. Hellborn: Demonic entities, such as Baphomets, succubi, incubi, imps, sea demons, Hellhounds, or clown demons, who were naturally born in Hell. Unlike sinners, Hellborn demons are free to travel wherever they want in the seven rings using Elevator 666.
  9. Imps: A subspecies of Hellborn demons. Imps are generally considered to be lowborn by Hell's society. They are among the least respected demons, and most likely to be hired for slave labor, or as servants to higher ranking demons. Though in some rare cases, there are imps who have achieved a high level of wealth and influence, such as Crimson, Fizzarolli and Wally Wackford (though the last two only achieved fame because of Mammon, a higher demon).
  10. Hellhounds: A subspecies of Hellborn demons, resembling anthropomorphic wolves or dogs. Due to long-standing laws enforced by Belphegor, Hellhounds are regarded as the absolute lowest in Hell's hierarchy, in some cases being treated as mere "pets" rather than actual demons. Therefore, most Hellhounds can only obtain roles of servitude, such as security or hard labor, with some even being subservient to imps.

Trivia[]

  • Hell's theme song would be "Savages" by MARINA.
  • Satan is Hell's answer to God. This is evident in demons, primarily imps, worshipping Satan as a deity, as well as using the Devil's name in phrases that normally invoke God.
  • All fallen angels who descend to Hell are sent by Lucifer to be devoured by Leviathan, with very few escaping the King of Envy's claws.
  • It is heavily implied that time in Hell flows much slowly than it does on Earth. This is evident in how Angel Dust had been working under Valentino (who died in the 1970s) for 70 years, though it is implied by Ren that Earth's current year is sometime in the early 2020s.
    • Assuming Hell's time does flow like Earth's, then Earth's current year would have to be somewhere in the 2050s-2060s.
  • According to Stolas, all demon magic is tied to Hell itself, meaning that the further away a demon is from Hell, the weaker their powers become.
    • Likewise, if Hell were to ever be destroyed, all Hellborn demons (and presumably Overlords) would lose their demonic magic permanently.
  • Christmas and Thanksgiving Day are illegal in Hell, for obvious reasons. Instead, demons celebrate Sinsmas, an annual holiday where demons celebrate the glory of Lucifer and demon children await the arrival of Krampus.
  • Although holy weaponry is outlawed in Hell, there are still numerous ways to obtain holy weaponry, such as purchasing them on Pentagram City's black market or from Carmilla Carmine's private organization.
  • The many eyes that are scattered across Hell are actually magical surveillance devices of a sort that Lucifer and Camille use to watch over and observe Hell's populace.
  • According to Angel Dust, Arthur, and Serenity, Hell smells like "industry and dead bodies".
  • There is little to no health or dental care available in Hell because most of its rulers do not care about their subjects.
  • If a living human soul were to enter Hell, they would die on the spot.
  • According to Fergus, there are no seatbelts in Hell.
  • Nearly all of the water in Hell has been polluted by toxic waste or numerous other contaminants. Therefore, alcohol has become the go-to liquid in the Inferno since its inception.
  • Hell has an embassy in Heaven that is located in Virtue Ville. Heaven similarly has an embassy in Hell, located in Pride.
