"To indulge and cater to lazy fucks like you."
Belphe-Tech's tagline for Karen.
"Karen: W- What?! I thought I scrapped you! (Lugnut and Claptrap free the eight angels from their restraints) What do you think you're doing?! Put those restraints back in place! [...] Why aren't you listening to me?!
Claptrap: We can't do that, Karen. We're... How did you put it? Defective? (he and Lugnut laugh and wave at Karen as they exit the detention room with the angels)
Karen: Why, you little... YOU STUPID, DISRESPECTFUL RETARDS! BACKSTABBING COCKSUCKERS! [...] PUT THE TEST SUBJECTS BACK IN DETAINMENT! THAT'S A MOTHERFUCKING ORDER!!!
"
— Karen's villainous breakdown as she prepares to destroy Lugnut and Claptrap for freeing Charlie's Angels and saving them from being experimented on.

Karen is a supporting antagonist in Hazbin Hotel: Journey to the Light.

She serves as a supporting antagonist in Chapter 4.

Karen was the haughty neural network of Belphe-Tech, Belphegor's most trusted assistant, and the archenemy of Lugnut and Claptrap. During her years of activity, she essentially served as the most active and true ruler of the Sloth Ring, managing the ring and performing menial duties while Belphegor himself remained secluded and unbothered in his quarters. Having aided the King of Sloth in nearly all of his immoral crimes, Karen sought to capture Charlie's Angels so that she and her master could experiment on them and exploit their angelic powers and abilities for their creations. After Charlie's Angels were rescued by Lugnut and Claptrap, two robots who defected from Belphegor's forces, Karen was destroyed shortly afterward by Crymini and Niffty during an attempt to recapture the children.

Biography[]

Background[]

Karen was created by Belphegor as the neural network of Belphe-Tech, the company that distributes most of Hell's technology. It is implied that she was created to maintain order in the ring of Sloth] so that Belphegor himself would not have to do it. As the company's neural network, Karen became the second-highest ranking authority figure within Sloth, and is in charge of maintaining Belphegor's dominion over Sloth and catering to the King of Sloth's every demand.

Events of Hazbin Hotel: Journey to the Light[]

Chapter 4[]

In "Dinner and a Show", Karen is introduced greeting Belphegor as the King of Sloth arrived from his inspection of Belphe-Tech's factories. Karen notices that Belphegor seems distracted, and begins listing off different ways for him to relieve stress. Belphegor turns his attention to Karen, informing her of the presence of Charlie's Angels within Hell, prompting her to recommend moving Belphegor to a safe room. Belphegor declares such an action to be unnecessary, since said angels were merely children. The King of Sloth informed her of his desire to study and experiment on the children to exploit their angelic power, and orders her to send 15% of Belphe-Tech's Scavenger Units throughout Hell to track them down. She happily does as she is told and begins geeking out over having the opportunity to dissect angels, until Belphegor ordered her to send units 96283 (Lugnut) and TR-34856 (Claptrap). She almost instantly objected to Belphegor's decision, noting the past failure of the two units, but Belphegor informed her that the two cyborgs were currently in the Pride Ring, where the angels were at that current time, and admonished her to never question him again. She begrudgingly accepted defeat, informing Belphegor that she will pass along his orders.

After sending the Scavenger Units out on their mission, Karen sends one of her personal assistants to fly out to Lugnut and Claptrap, who are organizing trash at a landfill in the Pride Ring. Her deployed unit projects her face to Lugnut and Claptrap via hologram, allowing her to speak to them. Karen mockingly asks the two if they are having fun, revealing that she was the one who sent them to the landfill to perform a meaningless and degrading job. She scornfully informs the two of their new task of capturing the angel children, as well as threatening to scrap them should one of Belphe-Tech's units seize the children before they could. With the orders given, she mockingly bids the two farewell before the deployed unit flies off back to the Sloth Ring.

In "When World's Collide", Karen appears in a flashback depicting Loona during her childhood at the Hellhound Adoption Foundation. When Loona found herself in trouble with Sloth's law enforcement for vandalism (which had happened twice prior), Karen confronted Loona and viciously reprimanded her, threatening to hand the young Hellhound over to a Hellhound detention center should she continue her loutish behavior. She also reprimanded Loona for removing her shock collar, which she did so to relieve herself of discomfort, and has an assistant robot give her a new one. Karen determined that Loona ultimately needed to be reconditioned.

In "Take Me, Gravity", Karen is angrily scolding a Belphe-Tech robot for their lack of urgency on readying devices to experiment on Charlie's Angels. The assistant tries to explain that they would need blessed surgical equipment in order to bypass the angels' skin, but she cuts them off as she is alerted that one of Belphegor's Scavenger Units had detected the angels in Pentagram City. she goes to inform Belphegor, but not without ordering the assistant to be scrapped for his "failure". Karen and her master entered a control room and observed the event and ensuing chase through the Scavenger Units' lenses. Despite their efforts, the Scavenger Units fail to capture the angels due to Lugnut and Claptrap's interference (unbeknownst to Karen and Belphegor). The King of Sloth ordered his assistant to send every deployed Scavenger Unit to the Pride Ring, before leaving to take a nap. Karen then does as her master ordered, sending all Scavenger Units that were deployed to Pentagram City. She then begins browsing the lenses of the deployed units in hopes of spotting traces of the angels, before halting as she spots the angels through Lugnut's lenses. Realizing the angels are with Lugnut and Claptrap, Karen smiles maliciously as she begins tracing their location.

In "Shield of Hate", Lugnut reveals his backstory to Charlie's Angels, explaining that he was once a demon until Belphegor converted him into a robot. When he and Lugnut previously disappointed Belphegor, Karen punished them by destroying all of the friends they had made at Belphe-Tech and then scrapping their remains. Karen then converted the scrapped remains of their friends into robotic plating that she had implanted on Lugnut and Claptrap as a permanent reminder of their failure. Saddened by his story, the children comfort Lugnut by saying that he and Claptrap do not have to return to the Sloth Ring and can be a member of their family. Touched by their kindness, Lugnut lamented that he wished he could remember how to cry, as the children, followed by Claptrap, lovingly embrace him.

In "Suppression of Lust", Karen uses the body of one of her minions to converse with Belphegor as he is watching television in his home theater. She attempts to coax him into having fun with her in hopes of rekindling the fun they used to have back when he was programming her, but Belphegor is only interested in Charlie's Angels and acts dismissive towards her, much to her dismay. When Karen persists, he dismissively tells her that what happened in the past is irrelevant. As saddened Karen briefly considers showing her master a video of Lugnut and Claptrap with the eight angels to expose the two for their betrayal, only to back out at the last moment, sadly telling her master to enjoy his programming before vanishing from the screen of her minion.

In "Retribution", Karen manages to lure Megara away from the Hazbin Hotel by using a stealth drone to project a hologram of her deceased adopted mother, Adina. Realizing she is gone, Lugnut, Claptrap, and Charlie's Angels run to her aide, but end up surrounded by a group of Karen Units. The children are captured and trapped in a tractor beam, and Karen appears on the screen of her units, taunting Lugnut and Claptrap for being unable to protect the children, and reveals to them that she is aware of their betrayal. Lugnut and Claptrap attempt to convince Karen to leave the children alone, but she claims that she has been waiting a long time for a reason to destroy Lugnut and Claptrap once and for all. She promises that she will use their scrapped remains as caskets for the childrens' bodies, before summoning a tractor beam that sends them to a Belphe-Tech scrapping factory, leaving them to their fates. A Karen Mercenary attempted to remind its master that Belphegor had wanted Lugnut and Claptrap operational, but Karen silences the mercenary and says that Belphegor won't care about their fates when he sees that she successfully captured the children. Karen and her units then return to the Sloth Ring with the captured children.

Unbeknownst to Karen, Lugnut and Claptrap narrowly survived being scrapped, and were able to run back to the Hazbin Hotel and alert Baxter and Crymini of what happened to the children.

In "System Reboot", Charlie's Angels wake up and find themselves in a detention room within the most secretive facility of Belphe-Tech, with Karen in the room with them. Karen eagerly greeted the children, only for them to angrily shout at her for seemingly destroying Lugnut and Claptrap. She ordered a nearby medical droid to take a blood sample from Amelia, but the angel's protective aura defended her from the droid and knocked it back into a wall. This makes her even more excited as she starts gushing over how powerful Belphe-Tech's robots will be when Belphe-Tech exploits the angels' power. Soon, Belphegor himself enters the detention room, and Karen falsely informed the King of Sloth that she found the children all by herself and that the children destroyed Lugnut and Claptrap. As Karen had predicted, Belphegor has very little reaction to Lugnut and Claptrap's assumed destruction and ordered Karen to prepare the children for their operation. As Belphegor left, Karen mockingly told the children to say their goodbyes as they were preparing for their deaths.

Hours later, the medical room is prepared for the children as they are strapped to advanced stretchers powered by electricity. James anxiously asked Karen what was going to happen to them, and she gave him a run-down of all the horrific experimentations they planned to perform on the children. She then told the medical droid to not give the children any anesthesia as she wanted them to suffer the most painful of deaths for the stressful week she suffered while trying to capture them. Karen then returned to Belphegor's private quarters so that they could oversee the experimentation together.

After Belphegor gives them the signal to proceed, the medical droids equip their holy surgical equipment and prepare to dissect the children. Accepting oblivion, the children all hold hands and huddle close to another, burying their faces in each other's shoulders. However, just before the experiment could begin, Lugnut and Claptrap break into the facility via the ventilation system and take out the medical droids. As Karen expresses utter shock that the two robots were still operational, Lugnut and Claptrap freed the children from their binds. Megara expressed her awe that the two came back for them, and Lugnut told him that one should never leave family behind. As the two robots were leaving the medical room with the children, she angrily demanded to know why they were not listening to her. Claptrap mockingly answered her question by saying that he and Lugnut were "defective", before he continued leaving with Lugnut and the children. At that moment, Karen completely loses her composure, all in front of Belphegor, and goes on a childish swearing tirade, cursing Lugnut and Claptrap for their defiance. She then pulled up Lugnut and Claptrap's internal systems on her HUD and activated their self-destruct functions. To her disbelief, Lugnut and Claptrap's bombs did not go off, they had been deactivated and shorted out when the two robots were electrocuted by the angels' protective aura when they were initially sent to capture them.

As Karen was in disbelief, Belphegor confronted his creation and reminded her that she had told him that Lugnut and Claptrap were destroyed. Karen breaks under pressure and urgently told Belphegor the truth about Lugnut and Claptrap's insubordination and that she only found the angels through them. To her surprise, Belphegor arrogantly expresses his gratitude for her initiative for attempting to destroy Lugnut and Claptrap and reaffirmed her as a model of his intelligence. Interpreting this as a complement, Karen blushed and thanked Belphegor for his words, having seemingly finally gained his full favor.

Meanwhile, Lugnut and Claptrap are attempting to lead the children through an underground tunnel to lead them to safety. Determined to capture the children again and destroy Lugnut and Claptrap for their insubordination, Karen alerts all of Belphe-Tech's combat droids to their location. At that moment, Baxter, Crymini, and Niffty (the latter of which wanted to tag along to be with Baxter), after being given permission from Charlie, travel to the Sloth Ring using Baxter's spaceship. With Crymini piloting the ship and Niffty in control of the ships weapon system, Baxter leaves her side to aide Lugnut and Claptrap in escaping. Using the Belphe-Tech facility's PA system Karen taunts Lugnut and Claptrap while they fight off against more Karen Units and attack drones. She uses then sends Scavenger Units made from nanotechnology to deal with them, to which Belphegor again compliments Karen on her intelligence, causing her to smile.

As the crew cower from Belphe-Tech's advancing forces, Claptrap shouts that he has an idea; noting that Karen is powering all of the enemy forces, he mentions that they could destroy a series of Belphe-Tech power plants that were powering Karen using PLUTO, a sophisticated missile-launching system. Claptrap leaves to go hack into PLUTO so he could send its code to Baxter and Crymini, but Lugnut told Claptrap that he could be destroyed if he tried to do that. Claptrap says he is aware of what will happen and expressed his gratitude to have been friends with Lugnut and the children. With his mind made up, Charlie's Angels hug Claptrap one last time before he rushes off in the opposite direction, distracting the enemy forces as Lugnut and the children continue running.

Meanwhile, Baxter and Crymini are fighting Belphegor's forces, with Baxter using his inventions and Crymini giving him ariel assistance in the spaceship. Niffty finds it difficult to control the weapons of Baxter's ship, but when Crymini tells her to imagine that Belphegor's robots are stains or cobwebs, Niffty viciously and excitedly begins obliterating them. Baxter manages to hack into several of Belphegor's robots so he could break into Belphegor's facility, earning him the King of Sloth's attention. Belphegor intently watches Baxter on a security system as Karen continues her efforts to stop the children and Lugnut and Claptrap. Karen attempted to shoot Baxter's ship down with advanced homing missiles, but Crymini maneuvers the ship and tricks the missiles into hitting one of Belphegor's statues. Soon, Belphegor uses a PA system to express his respect of Baxter for having the intelligence to hack into his creations. However, he assures Baxter that, even with his intelligence, he will not win. Belphegor then reveals that he plans on turning Baxter and Crymini into robot slaves as he admired their intelligence and desired them as his servants.

Back with Claptrap, he succeeds in making it to PLUTO's underground mainframe, but Karen tracks him inside and beams several of her units into the room to stop him. Claptrap manages to grab one of their blaster rifles and fights most of them off, sustaining heavy damage along the way. Thinking all of the mercenaries were dealt with, an injured Claptrap successfully sends PLUTO's codes over to Baxter. His victory is short-lived, however, as while his back was turned, Karen hacked into the body of a mercenary and uses its rifle to shoot Claptrap three times, critically injuring him. Before Karen could deal the final destroying blow, Baxter and Crymini's escalating battle with Belphegor's robots causes a massive explosion that causes the ceiling of the underground facility to crumble, causing large piece of debris to crush the mercenary Karen was manipulating. Knowing he was not going to come back from his injuries, Claptrap spends his last moments browsing through his memories of his time with Lugnut and the children, watching them contently as he faded away.

Lugnut and the children are halfway through the tunnel until Karen sends even more units and Scavenger Units to stop them. As they struggle to escape, Karen reveals to them that she destroyed Claptrap and taunts them over his death. She then stated that even if the children were to escape, she and Belphegor can always send more Scavenger Units after them. After reminding Lugnut that she can see through his lenses, Karen mockingly concludes the only way for him to protect the children would be to leave them.

Meanwhile, Crymini finally gains access to PLUTO and is informed by Baxter to destroy specific Belphe-Tech power plants around the Sloth Ring. Crymini and Niffty each take control of PLUTO, using its missiles to destroy all six of the Belphe-Tech factories containing Karen's serves. The destruction of the servers severely affects Karen's functionality as she begins to lose influence and control with each destroyed server. With only one server left to destroy, Karen, glitching, losing power rapidly, and knowing her end is near, emotionally says her goodbyes to Belphegor, requesting that he build a giant statue to honor her once the children have been experimented on and Belphe-Tech ruled the Universe. After her final server was destroyed, she tells Belphegor to remember her and their friendship as she fades away and goes offline, leaving the King of Sloth alone to deal with Baxter.

Aftermath[]

Following Karen's destruction, all Belphe-Tech robots and products across the entire Sloth Ring shut down as she was the one providing them with power, leaving the denizens of Sloth in utter disarray and causing the ring to spiral into chaos.

Personality[]

"You think when Belphegor named her it was just a coincidence, or did he finally get a sense of humor?"
— Lugnut to Claptrap.
"James: W- What are you going to do to us?
Karen: Oh, y'know, dissection, vivisection, sensory deprivation, draining you of your vital fluids, all that jazz. You brats have caused me a considerable amount of stress the past few weeks. This is
less than what you deserve. (to a medical droid) Never mind the anesthesia. I want to enjoy this..."
— Karen displaying her sadistic tendencies by refusing to give Charlie's Angels anesthesia for their lethal dissection.

Towards Belphegor and the denizens of Sloth, Karen maintained the superficial disposition of a helpful and affable face, a model and testament to Belphegor's immense intelligence. She was excessively servile and polite to Belphegor, as she always wanted to please him to gain his favor, and because of her position, believed herself to be superior to any and all Belphe-Tech robots, employees, or products. Karen was notably far chattier than her master, and was often used to speak on his behalf. She displayed many ranges of emotion, possessing a plucky, quirky, and nerdy side to her personality as well, such as expressing joy at the thought of dissecting Charlie's Angels like lab rats to obtain their angelic power, and displayed dorky excitement by how unstoppable and powerful Belphe-Tech's inventions could become by exploiting their angelic power.

While Karen was beloved by the denizens of Sloth for providing them with Wi-Fi and robots that assisted them with everything, anyone who knew her personally, especially those who worked under her, knew that she was incredibly haughty, smug, and condescending towards everyone except Belphegor. In some ways, she was more actively cruel than the King of Sloth himself, which is not too surprising, as she was the enforcer to his authority. She behaved especially vicious towards Lugnut and Claptrap, ridiculing them for their ineptitude, and musing over having them sent to be turned into scrap just as she previously did to their friends. She also went as far as to have Lugnut and Claptrap fitted with the remains of their friends, which she converted into robotic plating, to psychologically torture them for failure.

Karen generally treated her own private assistants with little to no respect and took her anger out on anyone who angered or crossed her by having them sent to a scrapping yard, which is used to chop up and melt down robots who are deemed to be no longer of use, and she displayed no mercy whatsoever when sentencing robots and even laughs at her victim's fates. She also seized any opportunity to talk down to or ridicule others in the most vicious ways imaginable. Belphegor was pretty much the only being she did not treat with complete and utter cruelty. This led many of Belphe-Tech's robots and employees to despise or outright fear her. She also harbored a very sociopathic and sadistic side to her, as she was more than happy to assist the King of Sloth in his immoral crimes, including having any dissidents to their power enslaved, and potentially killing Charlie's Angels through lethal experimentation. Before the children were to be experimented on, she even ordered a medical droid to not give them any anesthesia as she wanted them to suffer an agonizing death for evading her. Karen also displayed a very heartless side to her, cruelly mocking Loona during her childhood for the fact that no one wanted to adopt her.

Karen shared her master's racist outlook on Hellhounds; she believed Hellhounds to be an inferior species and that they were "all the same". She enforced Belphegor's law that every Hellhound in Sloth (including the children at the adoption foundation) were to be fitted with shock collars to keep them in line, and viewed Hellhounds as nothing less than sapient livestock, inquiring to Loona what the difference was between a Hellhound and a guard dog. She also frequently referred to Hellhounds with slurs, calling them "flea bags".

She was not above taking all the credit for the work of her underlings all to remain in Belphegor's good graces. When she finally captured Charlie's Angels, Karen told her creator that she found them all by herself, when in reality it was Lugnut and Claptrap who found them and Karen had simply tracked them to their location.

Karen, despite her rather chipper and upbeat attitude when neutral, was rather vulgar when under stress and would spout the cruelest swear words when enraged at others. For example, when Lugnut and Claptrap rescued Charlie's Angels from being experimented on and taunted Karen while escaping with them, she reacted by angrily insulting them with derogatory slurs while threatening to kill them both.

Appearance[]

Karen had a simplistic design, possessing a bluish-white set of eyes and a mouth set over a pitch-black background. Her face was capable of forming into designs and visualizations which she can display on her screens.

Whenever Karen experienced strong emotion, especially anger, her screen tended to glitch out.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Clairvoyance: Karen possessed access to every single security camera and screen across the Sloth Ring. She could also appear on any screen of her choosing and could see through the eyes of all Belphe-Tech artificial intelligence, sometimes multiple units at once.
  • Creation: By manipulating nanotechnology, Karen had the ability to almost instantly create entirely new, upgraded robots or various machines entirely from scratch.
  • Hacking: Karen could seize control of any and all Belphe-Tech products, such as lights, self-driving cars, and hovercrafts, giving them artificial intelligence, and could turn the Wi-Fi across the Sloth Ring on and off. She could also hack into the private information of others on a whim, allowing her to view their texts, phone calls, and emails, and could access the internal systems of Belphe-Tech's robots and control them, which allowed her to activate their self-destruct systems if she pleased. However, her control over technology was still far inferior than that of her deceased master Belphegor.
  • Illusion Creation: Karen could project holograms that were capable of displaying anything from TV shows to lifelike illusions.
  • Immortality: As an AI, Karen possessed eternal life, as she existed inorganically as Belphe-Tech's neural network.
  • Information Analysis: Karen could scan organisms and objects for flaws or new information, possessed access to Hell's entire internet, and could detect anomalies in programming.
  • Summoning: Karen was capable of beaming a seemingly unlimited number of robots to her aide.

Abilities[]

  • Authority: As Belphegor's highest-ranking assistant, Karen possessed a high level of authority among Sloth's denizens and Belphe-Tech's artificial intelligence. She could apparently order robots to be scrapped and destroyed on a whom even without Belphegor's permission, and was valued enough to accompany Belphegor, the King of Sloth, wherever he went.

Weapons[]

  • Belphe-Tech Robots: Karen could override, control, and call upon every single Belphe-Tech product to obey her every whim.
  • Karen Units: Karen could deploy her own set of minions, known unofficially as "Karen Units", to carry out her biddings. They are used mainly for combat and security. The units have two types of units; The first are nanite robots who are capable of shapeshifting granted to them by their nanite physiology; the second units are former demons who were turned into robotic slaves by Karen or Belphegor, and wear body armor, wield plasma firearms, and are equipped with neural implants in the backs of their heads. The nanite Karen Units have flat screens for faces which Karen can see through and appear on.

Equipment[]

  • Drones: Karen could deploy drones that display a large screen which she can appear on, allowing her to communicate and view others.
  • Mind probes: Karen has access to Belphe-Tech probes that are capable of scanning the minds of others for information, emitting a holographic display of its victims' memories. She deployed the device against Megara of the seven angels, revealing the identity of her deceased adoptive mother figure, Adina. Karen later used this information to create a realistic hologram of Adina to lure Megara, as well as the other angels, out of hiding.

Relationships[]

Allies[]

Belphegor[]

"I'll never betray you, Bel!"
— Karen to Belphegor.

Belphegor was Karen's creator and master. According to Belphe-Tech's website, Karen was the closest thing Belphegor ever had to a true friend. During her development, she pampered, comforted, and talked with him whenever he was bored, and they would brainstorm ideas for Belphegor's then-developing company Belphe-Tech as he improved her intelligence and expanded her capabilities. Karen and Belphegor became genuine friends during her development, with them hosting parties and game nights with each other. In many ways, the King of Sloth was far closer to Karen than he was with any living being.

Karen behaved in an excessively obsequious manner to Belphegor, but with a hint of playfulness, always seeking his affection and approval, and catered to his every whim by regularly cleaning his screen and handing him objects. Karen was also rather affectionate towards Belphegor, frequently complimenting his looks as well as his style of clothing, and caring for him by attempting to recommend options to relieve the stress of being a king of an entire ring. Although the two worked together to achieve their goals, there have been occasions where Karen has questioned him or advised against his commands, such as when the King of Sloth ordered Lugnut and Claptrap to be one of the Belphe-Tech units sent to hunt Charlie's Angels, although she did back down when the King of Sloth insisted that they be sent and ordered her to never question his decisions. Soon after Belphegor insisted to Karen that Lugnut and Claptrap be sent along with Belphe-Tech's Scavenger Units to hunt Charlie's Angels, Karen demonstrated her lack of loyalty to even her own creator; she was willing to lie, even to him, for her own ends.

According to the series' creators, Karen cared about Belphegor deeply but was often left frustrated at how he never listens to her advice or reciprocates her affection, and thus vented her frustration on her subordinates or the denizens of Sloth.

After Lugnut and Claptrap rescued Charlie's Angels from being experimented on, Belphegor actually praised Karen for having the cunning and forethought to previously try to destroy Lugnut and Claptrap and labelled her as the ultimate testament to his intelligence. Karen interpreted this as her finally earning his attention and praise. Afterward, the two worked together in an attempt to capture Charlie's Angels. When Karen's servers were destroyed and she was slowly fading, she emotionally said her goodbyes to her master, making a final request for him to build a statue in her honor after he succeeded in exploiting the angels' power. Karen then shut down, thinking she had finally rekindled the friendship between the King of Sloth and herself.

Enemies[]

Lugnut and Claptrap[]

Lugnut and Claptrap were one of many Belphe-Tech employees under Karen's authority. The two were formerly Belphegor's personal servants, almost rivaling Karen herself to a degree. However, it is implied that at some point before the events of Chapter 4, Lugnut and Claptrap did something to disappoint and anger the King of Sloth and Karen so much that they were demoted to being garbage robots. Karen even attempted to scrap Lugnut and Claptrap for their failure, but eventually opted to scrap their friends in their place. As a permanent reminder of their failure, Karen converted the scrapped remains of their friends into robotic plating and had the two robots fitted with them. She later offered advanced nano-machines to replace Lugnut and Claptrap if the need presented itself.

Karen was very contemptuous and spiteful towards Lugnut and Claptrap because of their past failure, as well as the fact that she viewed them as inferior and obsolete artificial intelligence. She enjoyed reveling in and reminding them of their failures and sends them off to do meaningless and tedious tasks, such as organizing trash at a landfill. She also enjoyed reminding them that she previously destroyed their friends by scrapping them, and threatened to do the same to them should they fail to please her or Belphegor.

After Karen sent Lugnut and Claptrap to capture the eight angel children, the two robots quickly abandoned their mission after discovering the children. They took it upon themselves to befriend the angels and protect them after they had shown them kindness and welcomed the two into their "family". Karen displayed excitement when she discovered that the two robots were protecting Charlie's Angels, likely as it would give her a reason to destroy them without Belphegor's permission.

When Karen confronted Lugnut and Claptrap on their betray after she captured the angels, the two robots attempted to convince Karen to leave the children alone, but she refused to and sent them to a Belphe-Tech scrapping yard to their deaths, and later took credit for finding the angels while telling Belphegor that Lugnut and Claptrap were destroyed by the angels as she did not want to admit their competence on finding them to Belphegor. However, Karen and her master's attempt to experiment on the children was foiled when Lugnut and Claptrap escaped the scrapping yard and broke into the Belphe-Tech facility, freeing the children before the experiment could begin. Karen futilely ordered the two robots to stop, to which Claptrap mocked Karen by saying that they could not listen because they were "defective". This caused Karen to completely lose her composure, cursing Lugnut and Claptrap for their defiance. Karen attempted to activate Lugnut and Claptrap's internal self-destruct system, but their bombs had already been shorted out when they initially attempted to capture the children and were electrocuted by their protective auras.

Following this, Karen unleashed her forces upon Lugnut and Claptrap in an attempt to destroy them once and for all and recapture the children. When Claptrap split from the team to send PLUTO's codes to Baxter, Karen sent her units to destroy him, and although they injured Claptrap, he managed to fight Karen's forces off. Refusing to let Claptrap embarrass her, Karen manipulated the body of one of her units to fatally shoot Claptrap before the unit itself was destroyed, destroying him. Later, Karen gloated over killing Claptrap to Lugnut and the children, saying that she relished destroying him and was awaiting to do the same to Lugnut. Karen did not live long enough to see Lugnut's destruction.

Quotes[]

Chapter 4[]

"Karen: Welcome home, my lord! (Karen deploys rotating brushes to polish Belphegor's screen) You look gorgeous, dapper, and very swag today! I trust you had a satisfactory day at the factory?
Belphegor: ADEQUATE.
Karen: Would you care for a light snack whilst I prepare dinner, or would you prefer to watch TV?
Belphegor: NOT NOW, KAREN.
Karen: My lord, I am detecting low energy levels as well as irritation in your speech patterns. Are you experiencing stress? (Belphegor begins typing on the screen on his wrist, which Karen appears on) According to my quick search on the internet, popular methods of relaxation trusted by demons include: bathing in warm lava, full-body flayment, and meditation. Do any of these option pique your interest? Or shall I prepare the sound-proof chambers for your hourly nap?
Belphegor: I HAVE BEEN INFORMED BY LUCIFER THAT THERE ARE EIGHT ANGELS PRESENT WITHIN HELL.
Karen: What?! But, my lord, how is that possible? We must get you to a saferoom straight away! They could rain down fire and light at any moment!
Belphegor: NOT NECESSARY. THEY ARE MERE CHILDREN. YOUNG, INEXPERIENCED... VULNERABLE. PRINCESS CHARLOTTE HAS BROUGHT THEM HERE FOR SHELTER. BUT SHE DOES NOT COMPREHEND THAT SHE IS BREAKING THE LEGISLATIONS OF HELL. ...I WISH TO USE THEM AS TEST SUBJECTS.
Karen: Yes, my lord. I don't think we've studied angels yet, have we? Oooh! Pardon me, sir, I'm just nerding out over this!
Belphegor: DEPLOY 12% OF OUR Scavenger Units ACROSS HELL.
Karen: Straight away, sire!
Belphegor: INCLUDING UNITS 96283 and TR-34856.
Karen: W-What!? (she reappears) B- But, my lord! They are incompetent! Defective. Why must we send them when we already possess units far more capable?
Belphegor: THEY ARE IN PRIDE, THE MOST LIKELY LOCATION OF WHERE THE ANGELS CURRENTLY ARE. DO NOT QUESTION MY CHOICES AGAIN, KAREN.
Karen: Oh... (sighs) Understood, sire. I shall inform them of your command.
Belphegor: TURN ON THE SOUND SYSTEM WHILE YOU READY MY SLEEPING CHAMBERS.
Karen: Understood, sire. Playing 'Fuck the Police' by Verosika Mayday.
"
— Belphegor orders Karen to begin searching for the eight angels.
"Your king and creator has been alerted to the presence of eight young angels somewhere in the seven rings. Your objective, if you choose to accept it... (laughs) Just kidding, you don't have a choice. Just a lil' joke. Anyway, your objective is to capture at least one of these angels and bring them back to Bel so that we may encapsulate their incredible holy power and use it create the ultimate weapons of mass destruction. (hundreds of Scavenger Units are deployed out of a Belphe-Tech base) Scurry along, my pretties! Find those intruding flying rodents and bring them back to your king. Oh, and don't be afraid to get your claws dirty if they try to resist. Now, just one more chore..."
— Karen deploying the Scavenger Units on their mission to capture the eight angels.
"Bel is taking his iconic 8pm nap, so you've got to deal with me."
— Karen to Lugnut and Claptrap.
"(sighs) Alright then. Allow me to spell it out since you two are clearly too dim to comprehend. You two were cast out there as a punishment for your incompetence. Now, you have a chance to prove your highly questionable worth both to me and Bel. Yes, they are angels and they could easily destroy you, but- (chuckles) -Let's be honest, it's not like Bel is going to suffer any shortage of servants any time soon. Your fates are in my control. You two don't want to go to the scrapyard like your friends did... Do you? (Lugnut and Claptrap hang their heads down; Karen giggles) That's what I thought. Anywho, I'm returning to base. Screen cleaning, can't miss it! Find those angels and bring them before us, or I'll see to it you are reunited with your friends. Maybe then we'll finally get some use out of you two. Ta-ta!"
— Karen ridiculing Lugnut and Claptrap while sending them to capture Manco and the seven angels.
"Karen: This is the second time this month you've been caught defacing Belphe-Tech property. Need I remind you that if I wanted to, you'd be on your way to one of our Hellhound detention centers?
Loona: (looking down angrily) No...
Karen: No, what?
Loona: (grumbles) No... Ma'am.
Karen: Satan, you Hellhounds are all alike. With the way you behave, it's no wonder no one wants you. (Loona looks down sadly and silently) Next time you find yourself in trouble, I'll have a cozy little room ready for you at the HDC. Got it? (Loona silently nods) And also... Why aren't you wearing your collar?
Loona: (shrugs) I lost it.
Karen: Likely story. Z-R0W? (a robot walks up to Loona and outfits her with a new shock collar) Now run along with the other dogs.
Loona: (under her breath) Hellhounds...
Karen: Oh, what's the difference?
"
— A flashback depicting Karen reprimanding Loona during the latter's childhood.
"Karen: I'm ordering you to inform me of the reasoning behind your lack of urgency.
Medical Droid: I know, my queen, but-
Karen: Is that too much to ask?!
Medical Droid: Of course not! The-
Karen: Then quit wasting my time and tell me!
Medical Droid: The devices we would need to bypass the holy skin of the supposed angels would have to be blessed in nature.
Karen: And...?
Medical Droid: The devices... Of which he currently lack.
Karen: Do you think that if we had such equipment, we wouldn't supply you with it?
Medical Droid: Of course not, my queen. But it should be made clear that without such devices it would be possible-
Karen: SHUT UP! I am already under a considerable amount of stress doing everything in my power to find those angels. So how about you quit blabbering, go to Pride, and find the damn blessed weapons yourself?!
Medical Droid: Y- Yes, Ma'am...
Reconnaissance Droid: (beams in) My Queen, one of our scavengers has detected the presence of two of the eight angels in Pride.
Karen: AH! Finally, some good news! I'll inform Bel immediately. But not before... (Karen manipulates nanotechnology to create four entirely new robots from scratch) You two, scurry over to Pride and report back with holy weaponry. (two of Karen's robots beam away; Karen faces the other two) You two, trash this loafing imbecile for wasting my time.
Medical Droid: NO! KAREN, DON'T! (the robots begin dragging him away) PLEASE, HAVE MERCY ON ME, MA'AM! (he continues screaming)
Karen: Sorry! Can't hear you over the praise I'm about to receive from Bel!
"
— Karen ordering one of Belphe-Tech's medical droids for his lack of urgency.
"Karen: (she appears in Belphegor's quarters) Sire!
Belphegor: (he is jamming out in a chair to Verosika Mayday's music until Karen comes in; embarrassed, he scrambles for the remote) NOT NOW, KAREN.
Karen: Wait... (she snorts, trying not to laugh) Is that Verosika Mayday?
Belphegor: NO. (he briefly juggles the remote until it drops from his hand; he repeatedly presses a button on his chair that slowly deploys a metal arm to pick it up for him)
Karen: Is this one Down in Slutsville? Oooh, I just love this one!
Belphegor: (he finally picks up the remote and turns off the sound system) CAN YOU NOT SEE I'M IN THE MIDDLE OF IMPORTANT RESEARCH?
Karen: Yeah, research. (she laughs)
Belphegor: (menacingly) TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY, KAREN.
Karen: Oh, chill out, Bel, I'm just having a little fib! Oh, and about that, sire, you'll be pleased to hear that our scavenger units detected one of the angels in Pride. (in surprise, Belphegor silently drops the remote, causing the music to resume; he leaps off of his chair to the remote, falling on his face)
"
— Karen informs Belphegor that their scavenger units located the seven angels.
"Well, isn't this my lucky day..."
— Karen after finding out that Lugnut and Claptrap were helping the eight angels.
"Karen: (Karen, using the body of a Karen Mercenary, appears before Belphegor, who is watching TV in a home theater) 'Ell! You having fun, Bel?
Belphegor: HAVE YOU LOCATED THE ANGELS YET?
Karen: Ahhh, let's forget about those little pests for just a moment. You've been practically obsessing over them all week! It'll only cause a significant rise in cortisol, norepinephrine-
Belphegor: I CANNOT EXPERIENCE STRESS ANYMORE, KAREN. THAT IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY I TRANSFERRED MY CONCIOUSNESS INTO THIS BODY.
Karen: (laughing) Oh, right, forgive me, sire. But, my point still stands! Let's just have some fun like we used to have! Watcha watchin'? You need a massage?
Belphegor: SILENCE, KAREN. (Karen has a sad expression and stays silent for several seconds before laughing) I SEE YOU ARE AMUSED BY THE PROGRAMMING. IT IS MOST HUMOROUS, I AGREE.
Karen: Oh, I wasn't laughing about that. I was just thinking back to when you were programming me and you couldn't find the TV remote so you ordered me to locate it, only for me to find that you were laying on it. (laughs) Or that time you were stuck on that level in
Super Satan Adventures II, so you had me look up a walkthrough to help you. Ah, those were the days... Pizza nights, test runs, playing video games...
Belphegor: YOU SEEM TO BE LOST IN THE PAST, KAREN. (Karen begins frowning) OBSESSING OVER THE OLD DAYS WILL NEVER BRING THEM BACK. THE FUTURE IS NOW. (Karen sadly looks at a video depicting Lugnut and Claptrap having fun with the eight angels in her heads-up-display) IS THERE SOMETHING I MUST KNOW, KAREN?
Karen: (despondently) No. Sorry for intruding, sire. Enjoy your programming. (she disappears from the Karen Mercenary's screen)
"
— Karen and Belphegor's conversation in the latter's home theater.
"Karen: (appears on the screen of the Karen Units) Well, well, well! If it isn't Units 96283 and TR-34856. Or should I say 'Lugnut' and 'Claptrap'? (giggles) Let me guess: Here to collect those knives you stuck in my back? Or did you just so happen to find the angels at the same time we did?
Lugnut: Let them go, Karen! They've done nothing to you!
Karen: Oh, they didn't? Angels being in Hell without proper clearance and tariffs sounds pretty damning to me. But that's not the reason I'm here... (she plays footage of Lugnut and Claptrap's time with the eight angels from their point-of-views) You've been helping these angels. I have all the proof I need.
Amelia: They were protecting us!
Karen: (to Amelia) Zip it, Happy Meal!
Lugnut: These kids don't deserve this! They're just trying to go home!
Claptrap: Exactly, so perhaaaaps you could inform Belphegor and he'll tell Lucifer and straighten this whole mess-
Karen: No. You see, I've been waiting to do this for a long, long time. (chuckles) And since you care about these angels so much, I'll see to it their corpses are preserved with the remains of your scrapped carcasses. (Karen summons a tractor beam that traps Lugnut and Claptrap)
Manco: No!
Lugnut: (to the children) We... Never wanted to hurt you- (he and Claptrap are suddenly beamed them to a scrapping factory)
Megera: Lugnut! Claptrap! (with tears in her eyes) No...
Karen: (laughing) Did you see the look on their faces? Oh, I wish I could have framed that. Oh, wait, I can? (she makes one of the units print of image of Lugnut and Claptrap's faces) There we are. One of you, have this framed in my office.
Karen Mercenary: Supreme Commander, I'm obligated to remind you that King Belphegor wanted those units op-
Karen: Shhhh! What Bel doesn't know won't hurt him. Besides, once he sees the new gifts I'm bringing him, 96283 and TR-34856's meaningless existences will be forgotten. (she turns to the children) Anyway, kiddies, time to play operation! It's going to be lots of fun for me...
"
— Karen successfully captures the angel children.
"Karen: Wakey wakey, eggs and bakey! Hellooo, you there?
Manco: (he and the other children are suspended in an energy prison, waking up groggily) Where... Where are we?
Karen: You, little one, are in the Sloth Ring. More specifically, you are in one of
Belphe-Tech's most secure laboratory. This is admittedly going to sound awkward, but I've wanted to get my hands on you kids for quite a while. (after an awkward pause, the children groan in disgust)
Simon: You really should have kept that one to yourself, lady.
Karen: Y'know, when Bel informed me that there were eight angels present in Hell, I thought Luci took one too many turns at one of the rides at Lu Lu World. But now that I'm actually seeing you in person... (squeals) I'm geeking out over this!
Megara: What did you do to Lugnut and Claptrap?!
Karen: 'Lugnut and Claptrap'? What colorful names you gave them. You must have REALLY grown attached to those defective rust buckets, did you?
Manco: You murdered them! We don't care if they were robots! They were part of our family and you murdered them!
Karen: (whispering) Family...?
Amelia: (voice breaking) They just trying to protect us! From you!
Giulia: They had more heart than you ever will!
Karen: (shouting) Yeah?! I'm not the one whose scrap now, am I?! (after a moment of tense silence, Karen chuckles) Ah, but who cares about them? You're the stars of the hour! (to a nearby medical droid) Take a DNA sample from the oldest one. (the medical droid approaches Amelia as she shudders in fear; it grabs her by the neck and attempts to take a blood sample using a holy syringe, only for the robot to get struck by Amelia's protective aura before he can touch her, sending it flying into a wall; Karen gasps) Oh, my... (laughs) Woo! That was epic! Are those... (she scans Amelia and the other children) ...Defensive auras? Without holy weapons, no external threat can harm you... Oh, that is... Sexy! This just keeps getting better and better! Picture it; With your blood, our artificial intelligence will no longer require energy shields. That little aura will do all the defending for them. Not the mention, of course, divine-powered energy attacks! Oooh, wait 'till Bel hears about this!
James: Where is this 'Bel' anyway?!
Giulia: Yeah! We'd like to have a word with that lazy coward!
Belphegor: MY, MY... (an elevator door opens to reveal Belphegor, causing the children to gasp in fear) SUCH FORBODING AND THREATENING WORDS. HARDLY FITTING FOR AN ANGEL.
Karen: You like the presents I got for you, Bel? Found them all by myself. You'll be interested to know that they destroyed several of our units... Including 96283 and TR-34856. (the children look at Karen angrily)
Amelia: SHE DIDN'T FIND US! SHE KILLED- (a Karen Mercenary covers her mouth)
Belphegor: YES. THEY HAVE BEEN OFF OF OUR RADARS FOR SOME TIME NOW. BUT, THIS IS A SMALL PRICE TO PAY FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF CONVIENENCE.
Karen: (chuckles) Exactly. Can you just imagine how energy-efficient our machines will be with just a tiny drop of their blood alone? We'll be unstoppable.
Belphegor: YES... (he grabs Megara by her throat and examines her as she whimpers in fear) THESE ANGELS ARE THE KEYS TO OUR ASCENSION. ONCE WE ARE THROUGH WITH THEM, WE WILL BE ABLE TO MAKE ADVANCEMENTS NEVER BEFORE CONCEIVED BY OTHER SENTIENT LIFEFORMS.
Amelia: (to Belphegor) Leave her alone!
Belphegor: (he stares at Amelia before releasing Megara and heading back to the elevator) KAREN, READY THE DETENTION ROOM FOR THEIR EXPERIMENTATION. I AM HIGHLY ANTICIPATING THIS EVENT.
Karen: (as Belphegor exits) Right-o, sire! (to the eight angels) So, uh, you kids sit tight, we'll get some supplies ready, move you to the detention room, and we'll all be set! Oh, and you juuuust might wanna get some goodbyes in there. Not that it's any of my concern. It's just- (chuckles) - y'never know what might happen next. (laughs) Aight, peace! (she vanishes from the nearby screen, leaving the children alone)
"
— Karen's conversation with the captured angels.
"Belphegor: KAREN... I THOUGHT YOU HAD TOLD ME THAT THOSE UNITS WERE DESTROYED.
Karen: OK! The truth is, they found the angels first, but they betrayed you and were keeping them from us! I tracked their locations and tried to scrap them, but they escaped, somehow! You know I wouldn't have told you a little fib if it wasn't for good reason!
Belphegor: YOU HAD THE FORETHOUGHT TO TRACK THEIR LOCATIONS AND USE THEIR CAMARADERIE AGAINST THEM, WITH BOTH OF THEM UNAWARE OF THE SITUATION UNTIL YOU WANTED THEM TO KNOW. THAT IS TRUE CUNNING, KAREN. YOU DETECTED THEIR TRECHERY BEFORE I, MYSELF, DID. YOU ARE TRULY THE ULTIMATE EXAMPLE OF MY INTELLECT.
Karen: (she blushes and smiles) I... I'm very happy you feel that way, Bel.
Belphegor: AND NOW, WE MUST COMBINE OUR BOUNDLESS INTELLIGENCE AND DO WHAT I SHOULD HAVE DONE LONG AGO. LET US CORRECT THIS EGREGIOUS ERROR, SHALL WE?
Karen: (she smiles and nods) Let's.
"
— Karen is confronted by Belphegor after he discovered that she had lied to him about Lugnut and Claptrap's fates.
"You didn't think it'd be that easy- (laughs) -did you?"
— Karen after her minions corner Lugnut, Claptrap, and the children.
"Oh, this is precious! You two really thought you could replicate your past friendships with a group of angels?! (laughs; to Belphegor) Can- can you believe it, Bel? (to Lugnut and Claptrap) You idiots truly are pathetic. These kids can preach their sugary 'family' garbage all they want, but the truth is, no one, and I mean NO ONE cares about you. In fact, you two wanna a lil' secret? When I scrapped your friends, all they could talk about was how big of a failure you two are. How you failed me and Bel, how you failed to save them. Well... At least, I think that's what they said. In between the whining and begging for their lives, it all got kinda grey. Eh. Either way, I could just see the disappointment in their eyes. And I, for one, can't wait to see that same look in the eyes of these kids when you fail to save them, too."
— Karen taunting Lugnut and Claptrap after Belphegor's minions corner them and the eight angels.
"Hmm... What's going on here? Are you trying to hack into PLUTO? (laughs) Am I to believe that someone as slow as you could bypass one of the most sophisticated security systems in the seven rings? (chortles) I didn't think so. But, please, keep trying. I like to laugh at how ineffective your attempts are."
— Karen to Claptrap as he attempts to hack into PLUTO, for Crymini.
"'Ello! Having fun down there? Just wanted to drop in and let you guys know that Claptrap is no longer with us. (the children gasp as Lugnut stares on angrily) He thought he could hack into PLUTO. (she snorts) What an idiot, right? Oh, and I know you're not going to listen to me, but I figured I'd let you know since I'm so generous; even if you make it beyond this ring, you will never escape us. I mean, do you have any idea how many drones and Scavenger Units we got? Not to mention, 'Lugnut', the fact that I can look through your lenses and trace your location whenever I want. I guess the only way for you to keep those angels safe is to... Leave them. Oh, but who would destroy such a powerful friendship? (laughs maniacally) Aight, peace out, kids."
— Karen taunting Lugnut and the Charlie's Angels as they try to escape the Sloth Ring.
"Oh, no..."
— Karen realizing her end is near after her first server is destroyed by Baxter's crew.
"(glitching out) Well, Bel... It looks like this is the end. They've destroyed all but one of my servers, and by my calculations, the final one is next on the chopping block. (chuckles lightly) Sorry, I'm... Not good at goodbyes. Usually, I just say it to some poor sap I ordered to get scrapped, but... Never like this. Do me a solid, will you? Once Belphe-Tech rules the Universe, have someone build a statue in my honor. Better yet, have someone carve my face into the side of a planet. So that I can... See the world you created. The next time you eat a slice of pizza or replay the Super Satan Adventures trilogy, remember the good times. (Karen's final server is destroyed) R-Remember... M- me... I h- hope we'll see each other a- again... Friend."
— Karen's final words to Belphegor as Crymini and Niffty destroy her servers and deactivate her.

Trivia[]

  • Her facial design is based on MePhone4 from the Youtube webseries Inanimate Insanity, and PAL from The Mitchells vs. the Machines.
  • In the same way Belphegor serves as a foil to Baxter, Karen can be seen as a foil to Baxter's assistant, Crymini.
    • Crymini is very deadpan, snarky, and does not appear to enjoy working with Baxter most of the time, whereas Karen has a much more upbeat and borderline childish persona and prefers to spend as much time with Belphegor as she can.
    • Crymini is surprisingly loyal to Baxter, going as far as to threaten that she would leave the hotel crew to die in Purgatory if Fergus did not take back what he said about Baxter being a "crackpot". In contrast, Karen, although she does care about him, is more than willing to go against Belphegor's orders if it suits her needs.
