— Mammon revealing his true colors to Fizzarolli, betraying him, and tasking his goons with killing him for demanding a pay raise.

Great King Mammon of Greed is a major antagonist in Hazbin Hotel: Journey to the Light.

He serves as a referenced antagonist in Chapters 1 and 2, a minor antagonist in Chapters 3 and 4, and a major antagonist in Chapter 5. He is also the overarching antagonist of Blitzø and Fizzarolli's storylines, being the one who destroyed their friendship and drove Fizzarolli down a path of greed.

He is an insatiably greedy, attention-seeking, and corrupt clown demon who presides over the Greed Ring of Hell, intending to become as rich as possible through his businesses, even if it means exploiting his employees, the Seven Rings of Hell, and leaving countless denizens of Hell impoverished. A jack-of-all-trades businessdemon and crime lord, Mammon has his hands in many pots and enterprises; he is the owner of the Moneymakerz Bank - which essentially controls Hell's economy -, a famous rock star, the owner of the Mint City Casino, and the former owner of the now-destroyed Loo Loo Land. He is also Fizzarolli's former idol-turned-archenemy.

Biography[]

Background[]

Mammon is one the most ancient demons in history, being one of the founding members of the Seven Deadly Sins and Hell in general, along with Lucifer, Leviathan, Beelzebub, Asmodeus, and Belphegor. After Mammon and his cohorts founded Hell, he was appointed as King of the Greed Ring by Lucifer.

After Hell's foundation, Mammon established himself as a famous rock star and successful business tycoon, becoming the owner of the Moneymakerz Bank, which produces and distributes most of Hell's currency, as well as selling an incalculable amount of products from cereals, T-shirts, and beverages. Under Mammon's rule, Greed deteriorated into a crime-ridden, polluted hellhole which was virtually unlivable to non-criminals. Mammon devised a ruthless system within the Greed Ring, where residents have no choice but to enter into jobs that offer meager wages insufficient for their survival. Over the course of their lifetimes, they unwittingly funnel the bulk of their earnings back into Mammon's coffers, effectively toiling away as his workers for decades, only to find themselves with virtually nothing to show for their years of labor. He also went on to create and found a theme park called Mammon's Loo Loo Land, which turned out to be a blatant rip-off of Lucifer Magne's much more successful and popular theme park Lu Lu World, with a name change made to avoid lawsuits.

During one of his concerts, Mammon chose an imp demon known as Fizz from his crowd, dubbing him with the nickname "Fizzarolli", where the imp passionately introduced himself to his musical idol. Mammon feigned kindness to his devoted fan, introducing the young imp to the crowd and taking him backstage. There, Mammon offered Fizzarolli a job at Loo Loo Land, which Fizz eagerly accepted. Mammon also went as far as to buy Fizzarolli from Cash Buckzo's circus. With Fizzarolli now his property and wrapped around his finger, Mammon manipulated the impressionable imp weeks after, telling him that he longer needed friends, since adulation and wealth substitute enough, and encouraged him to essentially cut ties with his adopted family, including his best friend Blitzø. Wanting to impress Mammon, the imp followed suit, ending his friendship with Blitzø which lasted since his childhood.

However, soon after he began working for Mammon, the pedestal that Fizz had placed the King of Greed on was soon shattered, as he discovered that Mammon was a very hostile and abusive boss towards everyone at Loo Loo Land, underpaying and overworking them, and allowing his personal bandmates, Larson, Calliope, and Tingles to torment and scam the theme park's staff and patrons. After years of service, and tired of being mistreated and heartbroken to discover his former idol's true nature, Fizzarolli demanded that the King of Hell pay him more for his troubles. In retaliation, Mammon ordered his bandmates to kill Fizzarolli and commissioned a robotic duplicate of the imp to replace him, believing that imps were easily replaceable and no one would notice when the real imp was gone. During the ensuing assassination attempt, Fizzarolli lost all of his limbs when Larson, Calliope, and Tingles dismembered him (since he owed Mammon an "arm and a leg"), and he was left to die in a nearby canal. As such, Mammon's underlings assumed he had died, or would eventually die, and informed their boss of his assumed fate. Unbeknownst to the King of Greed, Fizzarolli was saved by Asmodeus and given a position at the King of Lust's nightclub, Ozzie's.

Events of Helluva Boss[]

Although Mammon does not appear physically in Helluva Boss, he is referenced numerous times throughout "Loo Loo Land". His visage and name can be seen spread all across the titular theme park, as displayed in Loo Loo Land's welcome sign, the contract that Robo Fizz presents to Loo Loo Land's visitors, and his face appearing on a vendor's cart.

At the end of the episode, Loo Loo Land is destroyed as a result of the destructive battle between Blitzø and Robo Fizz, leaving the employees absolutely terrified about how Mammon was going to react when the news reached him.

In "Ozzie's", there is an app named "Moneymakerz Bank", with Mammon's silhouette being the icon, which may imply that the app is owned by him or simply attributed to him. Later, Fizzarolli briefly mentions the destruction of Loo Loo Land and discussed that he was looking to sue the theme park for profiting off of his image. Later, while browsing through old photos on his Hellphone, Blitzø comes across an old image of himself and Fizzarolli wearing what appears to be Mammon's merchandise.

Events of Hazbin Hotel: Journey to the Light[]

Chapter 1[]

In "The Game of Doubt", Mammon is mentioned by Katie Killjoy on the 666 News, where she reports that he evicted an entire orphanage in the middle of winter after the owners failed to pay their rent.

Chapter 3[]

In the post-credits scene of the Chapter 3 finale "Despite Everything, It's Still You", Lucifer enters a conference room within his castle, where Mammon, Asmodeus, Leviathan, and Belphegor are seen in sitting at a long table, waiting for him. Lucifer eagerly greeted his cohorts, although the King of Greed was impatient and eager for the meeting to end as quickly as possible so he could return to his greedy businesses. Lucifer informed Mammon and the others about Charlie bringing Manco and the seven angels into Hell, intending to shelter them at the Happy Hotel until she could find a way to safely return them to Heaven. This stunned Mammon and the other kings, with the King of Greed, noting how angels being present in Hell was a violation of the laws between Heaven and Hell. When Leviathan and Lucifer began conversing over Charlie and the former's son, Seviathan, Mammon became impatient and discourteously demanded his cohorts to focus on the topic of angels being present in Hell. Lucifer concurred with his greedy cohort and wickedly asked his partners if they knew what happened to "rule breakers", which Mammon, Leviathan, Beelzebub, and Asmodeus responded to by smiling with villainous intent.

Chapter 4[]

It is mentioned that following Loo Loo Land's destruction, Mammon apparently made a fortune off of the theme park's destruction via insurance money, and as such he completely discarded Loo Loo Land, took the money, and went off to invest in new ventures, abandoning Robo Fizz in the process, who miraculously survived the park's destruction, albeit in a severely damaged state. This left Robo Fizz deeply embittered towards Blitzø, as not only was he thrown away like trash by Mammon, but the theme park he used to drown himself in the admiration of others was now defunct as a result of his and Blitzø's fight.

In the Chapter 4 finale "It's Never Too Late"'s post-credits scene, Mammon attended a meeting of the remaining Seven Deadly Sins, discussing the deaths of Leviathan and Belphegor and the aftermath of Leviathan's attempt of flooding all of Hell. After Asmodeus admitted that he will miss Belphegor, Lucifer asked about Beelzebub's and Mammon's feelings, and all of them agree that Belphegor was a "prick" and are all too happy to forget about him. Mammon then started listening to Lucifer's plan for their next moves to crush their new enemies that are uniting together against the Seven Deadly Sins.

Chapter 5[]

In "A Complete Shitshow", after months of desperately trying to remain relevant through a Hell-wide tour, Mammon goes through a rebrand in a clear attempt to stay relevant, now donning the persona of an Australian, sleazy rock star and banking on his fans' nostalgia. During his Hell-wide tour, he is forced to attend Lucifer's gathering of Hell's royals, but does so on his own terms; he bursts onto the scene in an extravagant manner, taking center stage, and delivering an explosive rock performance alongside Larson, Calliope, and Tingles. At the conclusion of the musical act, the King of Greed promotes his new line of NFTs and misinterpreted the stunned reactions of the audience as admiration for his musical prowess. In truth, their astonishment stemmed from noticing how Mammon had allowed himself to deteriorate. Just as Tingles was about to convey this truth to Mammon, Calliope swiftly silenced him.

In "When We Do Wrong, No One Forgets", after Charlie's Angels are casted down to the Greed Ring by Azrael, they are captured by Crimson's mafia and handed over to Mammon, who has offered a massive reward for their capture. The children are brought before Mammon by Larson, Calliope, and Tingles. The massive King of Greed sings an over-the-top rock ballad to the children, describing who he is and what he is about. After the song ends, Mammon interrogates the children on why they are in his kingdom of Greed, threatening to pour melted gold on the kids to turn them into statues (which he regularly does to his goons that fail him).

To prove that he is not messing around, Mammon tells the children about Fizzarolli and the incident where he had the imp killed for complaining about his working conditions. However, to Mammon's fury and his posse's terror, Giulia taunts and unknowingly reveals to the King of Greed that Fizzarolli is still alive and survived Larson, Calliope, and Tingles' attempts to kill them. Mammon loses it and furiously beats and berates his minions for their failure, while Giulia continues taunting him, wondering how he did not know that Fizzarolli was still alive.

While Mammon is occupied with beating up his three underlings, Ebony appears to save the children, much to their surprise, having witnessed Azrael casting them down to Hell. She claims that she wants to help the children get to the hotel safely, and frees them from their binds. After Mammon hits him into a wall with his guitar, a dazed Tingles spots Ebony freeing the children and sounds an alarm. Mammon sees this and orders his goons to recapture the children and kill Ebony, leading the Exorcist to pull a daring escape with the children. After their escape, Mammon orders every mob in Greed to be on the lookout for the angels, before focusing back to Larson, Calliope, and Tingles. He orders the trio to assassinate Fizzarolli, ignoring their warnings that the imp was under Asmodeus' protection. Mammon threatens to have the three dipped in melted gold and added to his gold statue collection if they fail to kill Fizzarolli, before sending them on their way.

In "The Clock is Ticking", Mammon made an unexpected visit to Asmodeus' tower within the confines of the Lust Ring. Asmodeus, curious about Mammon's presence, inquired as to the purpose of his visit. Mammon, oozing with slyness, claimed that the Sins needed to stick together, especially in light of the demises of Beelzebub, Leviathan, and Belphegor. Upon sitting down, Mammon laughed and his voice grew louder, demanding that Fizzarolli cease hiding and revealing his awareness of the Fizz's presence. Fizzarolli descended from his concealed perch in the rafters, landing gracefully on Asmodeus' shoulder while subtly showcasing his new robot arms, seemingly to taunt Mammon for his earlier attempt on his life.

Mammon, attempting to maintain an amiable demeanor, complimented Fizzarolli's altered appearance, noting all the ways he could use his arms to pleasure Ozzie, which causes the King of Lust and Fizzarolli to get overly defensive and claim that they aren't in love, since "love is cringe". Getting to business, Mammon reminds Fizzarolli of the outstanding debt he owed. He tried to intimidate Fizzarolli into rejoining his ranks. However, Asmodeus, determined to protect his companion imp, intervened sternly, reminding Mammon that Fizzarolli had already paid his "arm and a leg" dept when Mammon's henchmen dismembered him. Asmodeus also pointed out that Mammon had profited greatly by using Fizzarolli's image as a brand figure. Fizzarolli, emboldened by Asmodeus' support, cockily retorted that he could take legal action against Mammon. He even got in the King of Greed's face, unafraid of confrontation. This visibly angered Mammon, who abruptly exited the tower.

Mammon summoned his bumbling underlings, Larson, Calliope, and Tingles, instructing them to retrieve Fizzarolli so that he could continue profiting from the imp. When Mammon's underlings sought guidance on their course of action, Mammon, in his anger, facetiously suggested that they locate Fizzarolli's scattered limbs and reattach them to his body, thus putting him back in debt. After Mammon stomps away, Larson comically takes this "advice" to heart, and Mammon's posse decide upon the plan of kidnapping Fizzarolli with the intention of restoring his severed limbs in hopes of causing a debt relapse.

Upon Mammon's return to the Mint City Casino, he places a call to Lucifer, who happens to be bathing in an absurdly oversized bathtub at Lu Lu World. Annoyed by the interruption, Lucifer reluctantly answers the call, a bit bewildered and needing a gentle nudge from his attendants to recall who Mammon even is. With a smug air, Mammon proceeds to relay the news of him having briefly captured Charlie's Angels', along with the unwelcome addition of an intruder Exterminator angel. However, Lucifer, consumed by his own despondency, reacts with a profound numbness to this information. He simply instructs Mammon to proceed as he wishes before abruptly terminating the call, leaving Mammon to navigate the situation with minimal guidance from the King of Hell.

"
— Mammon dealing with a poor family.

Mammon, the reigning King Sin of the Greed Ring, is an unapologetically sleazy, power-hungry, and manipulative demon. His sole obsession revolves around amassing wealth, with complete disregard for the means or the destitution he leaves in his wake among fellow demons. He is an unabashedly ostentatious, an attention whore, and is very extra, seeking attention at every turn. His neon, overly verbose and eye-catching signage serves as a beacon, luring individuals to his enterprises and extravagant concerts. Mammon's insatiable greed has transformed a segment of Greed into a perpetual hotbed of criminal activity and squalid conditions. Paradoxically, despite his pride in his avaricious nature, Mammon chooses to indulge in a life of opulence, residing in the opulent villas located within the other rings of Hell or far removed from the deteriorating cityscape of the Greed Ring. In doing so, he willingly allows his own domain and its denizens to decay, all begotten from the unquenchable fire of his own greed.

Mammon's greed knows no bounds, extending to the exploitation of Hell's other rings. He enlists and dispatches pirates to raid the resources of the Envy Ring, has countless mobs doing dirty work for him in the Pride Ring, sends scavengers to steal discarded robots from the Sloth Ring, and deploys his pet dragons to lay waste to the Wrath Ring, all in a relentless pursuit of riches, including the theft of precious diamonds from its mines.

Mammon possesses a unique two-faced head, capable of flipping itself based on his prevailing mood. When he's in a joyful state or during concerts, his countenance appears perfectly normal, reflecting his contentment. However, in moments of frustration, anger or an outward display of his true malevolent greed, the opposite side of his head takes the primary position to reveal an enraged and paranoid expression or sinister grin, providing a clear visual indicator of his vexed disposition.

Mammon's repugnant, attention-seeking demeanor is so unbearable that even his fellow Seven Deadly Sins find him utterly obnoxious, with him standing out as the most disliked member, even more than Leviathan; Lucifer opts to overlook his existence altogether, Leviathan harbored a deep-seated animosity towards him for his relentless attempts to loot the resources of the Envy Ring, Belphegor loathed him for stealing his schematic to Robo Fizz to mass-produce them, and Asmodeus begrudgingly endures his company solely out of a sense of principle. His disrespectful behavior makes it clear why his sinful colleagues cannot stand him for long; during their meeting to discuss Charlie's Angels being in Hell, Mammon made it clear that he wanted the meeting over with as fast as possible so he could continue his fraudulent business, and he rudely interrupted Lucifer and Leviathan's conversation regarding Seviathan and Charlie in order to bring attention back to the angels. Indeed, Mammon appears to be universally unpopular within the upper echelons of Hell's social circles, facing disdain from demons like Charlie who find him intolerable.

Sporting a trashy rock star-like persona, Mammon derives perverse delight from witnessing others plummet into misery, especially if he's the catalyst of their despair. His magnum opus, the song "I Want It All," serves as an anthem for his malevolent pursuits. In this chilling composition, he proudly boasts of the lives he's shattered and the dreams he's extinguished in the relentless pursuit of his self-serving ambitions. To his adoring fans, he boldly declares that material possessions are the sole path to happiness and fulfillment, offering a disturbing glimpse into the depths of his avarice.

True to form as a rapacious businessdemon, Mammon harbors an intense revulsion and contempt for nature itself. He takes perverse pleasure in orchestrating the obliteration of forests and delicate ecosystems, gleefully replacing them with his sprawling businesses, factories, and ominous nuclear power plants. In his relentless quest for profit and dominance, he relishes in the devastation wrought upon the environment, leaving behind a trail of ecological ruin in his insatiable wake.

Mammon presents himself as a shrewd, rock star-like showman who promotes his enterprises with an air of credibility, enticing his ardent followers to pursue monetary success and fame at any cost, even if it necessitates deception, fraud, theft, or the rupture of relationships. Virtually everything he says carries some element of deceit, cementing his reputation as an unrelenting and draconian taskmaster, striking fear into all who fall under his dominion. Behind closed doors, he cruelly ridicules his own subjects and fans, dismissing them as "easy marks", "dumbass hicks", and "rubes," while consistently swindling them of their possessions and hard-earned money through his business schemes. He exudes an elitist demeanor, actively interfering in the lives of Hell's lower class for no discernible purpose, manipulating Hell's economy to render the meager belongings and wealth of the impoverished entirely worthless. Furthermore, Mammon holds a racially prejudiced and condescending attitude towards imps, viewing them as both expendable and easily replaceable, given their placement at the very bottom of Hell's social hierarchy. His disdain for these denizens of Hell knows no bounds, reflecting a deeply ingrained sense of superiority that fuels his ruthless exploitation of their vulnerability.

Additionally, Mammon is a raging alcoholic and drug addict, finding solace in the intoxicating embrace of cocaine as well as his own creation, Mapcap Vodka. His dependency on these potent concoctions drives him into turbulent bouts of alcohol-fueled excess. During these moments of inebriation, he revels in abusing and mistreating his hapless employees, subjecting them to his volatile and belligerent outbursts.

Mammon, having built his career upon a foundation of deceit and thievery, stands as a formidable and merciless manipulator. He possesses a keen ability to cloak himself in a facade of kindness, deftly exploiting the vulnerabilities of others. A prime example of this manipulation was his previous paternal act towards a young Fizzarolli, skillfully cultivating blind loyalty to exploit the impressionable demon for monetary gain, only to ruthlessly betray his former number one fan once Fizzarolli posed a liability. Mammon's mastery of manipulation extends to the broader population of the Greed Ring and Hell itself, skillfully hoodwinking them into believing in the legitimacy and credibility of his businesses. He effortlessly sidesteps any evidence suggesting their dubious nature. However, beneath this cunning exterior lies a substantial dose of arrogance and complacency. He proudly parades himself as Lucifer's favored demon, despite the King of Hell only sporadically acknowledging his existence.

Despite his cruelty and inherent danger, Mammon maintains a highly comical and entertaining personality, characterized by his outlandish greed, cartoonish behavior, and overly exaggerated antics. His snide, outdated, and irreverent style of humor adds to his persona, fittingly aligning with his role as a demon clown. He is so cruel and heartless that it borders on being laughable. However, his comedic facade only scratches the surface. Behind closed doors, Mammon reveals a far more short-tempered and merciless nature than his public image as a fun-loving ruler would suggest and is more than capable of being genuinely threatening, merciless, and intimidating, although he occasionally lets his humorous side shine through even in private moments.

Mammon consistently displays callous and hostile behavior towards his employees and subordinates. Despite the intrinsic worthlessness of money to a demon of his power, he aggressively pursues every opportunity to swindle and amass wealth from the denizens of Hell, exhibiting an unwavering commitment to extracting the last ounce of profit. He doesn't hesitate to impose severe punishments on his employees if they fail to meet his insatiable earnings expectations, subjecting them to overwork and paltry compensation. During his performances, Mammon's cruelty extends to physically abusing his underlings, with acts such as strangling and hurling Tingles and brutally smashing guitars over Larson's head. His employees, in an unjust arrangement, receive meager wages for their labor and are bound by contractual obligations, with the looming threat of eternal torment and imprisonment for non-compliance. His willingness to have Fizzarolli, a childhood admirer, executed and replaced with a Robotic Fizzarolli solely to avoid compensation exemplifies his heartless greed. Indeed, Mammon harbors a chilling willingness to resort to murder should his workers dare to request a raise, leaving a grim implication of the fate of many employees who voiced complaints or demands. Some unfortunate souls have met horrifying ends or endured grueling labor as punishment, including being consigned to the dreadful Imp Recycling Plant or subjected to being encased in molten gold, effectively sealing their doom by transforming them into lifeless statues. Furthermore, Mammon routinely inflicts physical and verbal abuse upon his timorous entourage, subjecting them to berating, slapstick comedy, and even strangulation for minor transgressions. His tyranny knows no bounds in his ruthless pursuit of wealth and power.

Appearance[]

Mammon's visage is reminiscent of a court jester, exhibiting certain similarities to Fizzarolli. Mammon possesses an immensely hefty and profoundly grotesque form, bordering on the monstrous. His corpulent figure is accentuated by four arms, and his elongated, sinuous tongue adds to the unsettling spectacle. Sharp teeth punctuate his menacing visage, a stark contrast to the facade he presents., boasting four arms. Adorning an eye mask and a jester's collar, his physique is embellished with numerous eye-catching neon green jewels. A neon green crown graces the front of his head, and he adorns what seems to be jester shoes and a three-eared hat, each tip bearing a small dollar sign. Additionally, he wields a scepter, its pinnacle featuring a prominent dollar sign Concealed most of the time, his pupils adopt the form of dollar signs, only materializing when the prospect of financial gain or a scheme presents itself.

Powers and Abilities[]

As the King of Greed, Mammon possesses an exceptional amount of demonic power that ranks him among the most powerful demons in all of Hell. He specializes in physics-breaking reality warping and other sorts of mindfuckery.

Natural Powers[]

  • Demonic Transformation: Mammon is capable of transforming into a more powerful and conventionally demonic form when going through intense fits of emotion, and then returning to his base form effortlessly.
  • Immortality: Mammon is immortal and can seemingly live indefinitely. He also does not age or get affected by time. As he founded the Seven Deadly Sins along with Lucifer, Beelzebub, Leviathan, Asmodeus, and Belphegor, Mammon would have to be one of the most ancient demons to have ever existed, as the Seven Deadly Sins were founded shortly after Lucifer was banished from Heaven, billions of years before the events of the series. Only sacred weapons and divine and immensely powerful primordial entities can kill and erase the King of Greed.
    • Nigh-Invulnerability: As one of the most ancient and powerful demons in existence, Mammon possesses an immense amount of physical resistance, rendering him impervious to being shot, stabbed, melted, vaporized, etc. However, Mammon is still vulnerable to angelic and archangelic weaponry as well as beings that possess divine power.
    • Regeneration: Like all demons and sinners, Mammon can regenerate himself from the most horrific of injuries, such as being brutally shot, or melted, and can even recreate his entire physical body in the case he is physically destroyed. However, holy weaponry and beings who possess divine power are capable of injuring him permanently or even bringing about his destruction.

Unique Powers[]

  • Demonic Power: As a member of the Seven Deadly Sins, the ruler of Greed, and one of the first demons to ever exist, Mammon is an immensely powerful demonic being, with demonic powers that eclipse that of the most powerful entities of the Inferno, such as the Overlords and most of the Goetia family.
    • Agility: While wearing his magical sashes, Mammon is granted inhuman levels of agility and flexibility. He can bend, stretch, and twist his limbs or his entire body in unnatural positions while dancing, even completely twisting his legs several times in a row to perform a spinning move. He is also athletic enough to do the splits, can turn his head 180° several times in a row, and can move and position his arms and legs in ways that would be outright impossible to perform, as if he has no bones, to begin with, and can even "pretzel" himself.
    • Anatomical Liberation: Mammon can detach all of his limbs, including his head, from his body, as well as manipulate his limbs even when they are detached. During a concert, he at one point removed his head and rolled it off of his arms before easily reattaching it back to his body While his head was detached, Mammon could still speak and sing normally as well as move his body completely unhindered.
    • Appendage Generation: Mammon can generate multiple arms and legs, the former of which allows him to carry multiple objects at once.
    • Body Puppetry: Mammon can control the movements of other people, manipulating them like puppets or marionettes.
    • Creation: Mammon is very proficient in creation magic, money, conjuring money, gold bars, and his musical equipment from thin air using simple hand gestures.
    • Dimensional Storage: Mammon's signature cap and bells can hold a lot more than they should be capable of. His cap is capable of holding (at least) fifteen credit cards, a cigar box, a shoehorn, a drum several times larger than the hat itself, occult symbols, a Mammon action figure, a vibrator, several contracts, and a large bag of gold.
    • Fragokinesis: Mammon can project fireworks from his hands, as shown by him projecting a display of fireworks at his concerts that displayed his face surrounded by dollar signs, and later creating fireworks that displayed Fizzarolli's name and face.
    • Hallucikinesis: Mammon is very proficient in illusion magic, including producing fake money and confusing his enemies by creating fake copies of himself that can move and speak on their own accord. His fake copies instantly vanish into gold dust when touched by other entities, at which point they will be replaced by three more copies.
    • Life Manipulation: Mammon can bring inanimate objects to life, at one point bringing a cloud of pollution to life during "I Want It All" and sharing a wink with it.
    • Pyrokinesis: Mammon can conjure and control the fire of a yellow color, as seen when he lit a rolled-up soul like a cigar using a small flame he conjured on his thumb.
    • Reality Warping: Mammon wields an extraordinary power that allows him to reshape reality at his command, bending the very fabric of psychic laws to his capricious whims. This formidable ability frequently takes center stage during his concerts, adding a mesmerizing spectacle to his performances. Among his fantastical feats, he conjures lyrics to his songs that materialize above him, crafting magical images illustrating his dubious dealings, and orchestrating a dazzling downpour of gold coins, souls, and even gold bars that cascade around the entire stadium, leaving audiences awestruck. Mammon's grand entrance is no less spectacular, as he employs his reality-manipulating prowess. He magically manifests a portal in the stage, dramatically leaping forth from it before sealing the portal shut with an enchanting zipper he conjures at will. These awe-inspiring displays of his powers further cement his reputation as a mesmerizing and enigmatic presence in the world of Hell's entertainment.
    • Soul Manipulation: Mammon can claim the souls of others through deals and contracts. Once under his control, Mammon's victims must do anything he says, lest they be eternally imprisoned and tormented. He can summon his victims anytime he pleases, magically torture their very souls to force them to do what he wants and have them eternally imprisoned.
    • Transmutation: Mammon can change the form of objects or even living creatures, at one point transforming his electric guitar into a microphone by simply waving his arm in front of it.

Abilities[]

  • Authority: Mammon commands a vast amount of authority from his position as the King of the Greed Ring, allowing him to punish his subjects and establish any laws he desires. He is also accompanied by an entourage that follows his every command and commands an army of Robo Fizz robots which he has control over.
  • Charisma: Mammon is very charismatic, garnering public and financial support through his music and charming, friendly exterior. He can easily inspire people using his charm and confidence, as displayed through Fizzarolli's former devotion to him, and give his subjects the image of one who inspires others to follow the pursuit of greed.
  • Dancing: Mammon is an acrobatic and skilled dancer. He uses his dancing abilities in combination with his acrobatic skills to add flair to his musical numbers.
  • Expert Acrobat: Mammon can perform multiple gymnastic tricks such as cartwheels, front flips, somersaults, and backflips.
  • Intimidation: Due to his short temper, greed, and ruthless attitude, as well as his immense powers, Mammon possesses a very intimidating presence, as his unscrupulous employees and his own bandmates are shown to be terrified of his wrath.
  • Musical Talent: As a famous rock star, Mammon can play many instruments, notably the drums and electric guitar, with amazing skill.
  • Wealth: Due to his status and position as an entrepreneur and business tycoon, as well as his countless businesses rigged to generate profits, Mammon has achieved an almost unlimited amount of wealth, possessing dozens of trillions of souls (the currency of Hell), allowing him to acquire and build all the business that he wants, as well for corrupt other extremely rich demons, and became even wealthier than demons like Valentino, Vox, Charlie, Leviathan and even Lucifer, becoming by far the wealthiest being in hell.
  • Wide Intellect: Mammon is a master of managing numerous businesses at once, businesses that have allowed him to become the wealthiest entity in all of Hell. He is a financial genius, possessing high knowledge of Hell's economy and rigging all of his businesses in his favor to ensure every transaction brings the entirety of Hell one step closer to being financially owned by him. He is also an expert manipulator, with the capability of manipulating the desires and feelings of others in order to make them his pawns and loyal allies.

Weaknesses[]

  • Divine Intervention: Mammon can be severely harmed or even erased by angelic weaponry or divine power.
  • Greed: Mammon's insatiable greed, which he prides himself on, can ironically be taken advantage of by his enemies and used against him; his obsession with money can oftentimes get the best of him, as well as compel him to do outright irrational things. Even a single penny is enough to distract him.
  • Obesity: Despite appearing to be a lanky clown-like demon capable of inhumane acts of flexibility at first glance, Mammon is, in reality, incredibly overweight from consuming a great deal of WackDonald's and Madcap Vodka over the years, though he is able to hide this and keep a good figure using magical sashes that he ties around his waist. If these sashes are ever removed, it severely hinders his mobility.

Relationships[]

Allies[]

Lucifer Magne[]

Mammon and Lucifer are long-time acquaintances and founding members of the Seven Deadly Sins. Mammon likes to think of himself as Lucifer's "number one", calling the King of Hell his "friend" and "ruler" on a note he left at Loo Loo Land, and forces his underlings, including the Greed Ring's news reporters, to address him as Lucifers favorite demon, though, ironically, Lucifer sometimes forgets that he exists. Regardless, Mammon seems to have no qualms with profiting off of Lucifer's ideas, as shown with Loo Loo Land, which was copied off of Lucifer's much more popular theme park Lu Lu World, displaying that Mammon is willing to profit off of and steal Lucifer's ideas as long as it serves his greedy means.

According to the series' creators, Mammon deeply fears Lucifer while also showing his own version of respect towards the King of Hell, even having a golden palace built for the King of Hell.

Asmodeus[]

Mammon and Asmodeus maintain a somewhat amicable rapport, with occasional displays of camaraderie between them. Asmodeus, in a playful fashion, gifted Mammon with a robotic Fizzarolli for his theme park, Loo Loo Land, after Fizzarolli began serving under Asmodeus. Asmodeus often teasingly refers to Mammon as "Moneybags," capitalizing on Mammon's cantankerous disposition for light-hearted banter.

However, beneath the surface, there are moments when Asmodeus adopts a more stern demeanor, especially when it comes to safeguarding Fizzarolli from Mammon's clutches. During Mammon's visit to Asmodeus's tower, the Prince of Lust confronted Mammon, inquiring about his presence and firmly asserting that Fizzarolli was no longer under Mammon's obligation. This sternness may be a protective measure to ensure Fizzarolli's autonomy and keep him out of Mammon's grasp.

Larson, Calliope, and Tingles[]

Mammon has a reputation for abusing, overworking, and underpaying his employees, and his treatment of Larson, Tingles, and Calliope is no different. He regularly subjects his cowardly and incompetent posse to slapstick abuse, ranging from harshly berating them for their mistakes, to strangling and burning them alive. He views them as little more than his personal entourage, disregarding their advice, and vents his frustration and anger out on them.

Although they are essentially his slaves, Mammon does allow the three clown demons to have some level of freedom as they were allowed to torment Loo Loo Land's patrons, and he places a decent amount of trust in them as he appointed them in charge of a couple of his businesses, such as the Mint City Casino.

Wally Wackford[]

Wally Wackford was originally Mammon's herald and right-hand imp, announcing the King of Greed at public events or his concerts. However, after Wackford's job as a torch vendor accidentally ended in Loo Loo Land being burned to the ground, Mammon was furious, demoting Wally as a result, and threatened to have him sent to the Imp Recycling Plant if he did not pay him back for the park's destruction (even though he had already been compensated for the park's destruction after the insurance money came through). This forced Wally to take up numerous jobs across Hell and start his own businesses in desperation to pay back his king.

In Chapter 5, it was shown that Mammon killed Wally by turning him into a gold statue after the imp failed to pay him back his money.

Enemies[]

Fizzarolli[]

Fizz deeply idolized Mammon and looked up to him as his hero and father figure while growing up, as shown by the photo of him and Blitzø wearing the King of Greed's merchandise and, dreamed of working at Loo Loo Land for the King of Greed. During Fizz's childhood, Mammon chose Fizz out of a crowd of thousands following the end of a performance, and feigned kindness for him being such a big fan, offering the imp a job at Loo Loo Land after bringing him backstage. He even falsely claimed that he would give up all of his wealth to have a son like him, which made the young imp cry tears of joy. He also gave him the nickname "Fizzarolli", the name he would go by from that point on. Of course, given what Mammon later did to Fizzarolli this seeming act of kindness was made null and void.

After this, Fizzarolli gradually began trusting Mammon more than his own best friend, Blitzø, mainly due to Mammon preying on and exploiting Fizzarolli's blind loyalty and greed, as opposed to Blitzø's growing doubts about Mammon's influence. This led to Fizzarolli ending his friendship with Blitzø to work for Mammon. The King of Greed congratulated Fizzarolli on cutting ties with Blitzø, claiming that Blitzø's fantasy of starting a company to prove imps are just as capable as other demons be nothing more than a pipe dream.

Fizzarolli eventually achieved his dream of working with Mammon personally, becoming the star attraction at Loo Loo Land. However, Fizz quickly learned that Mammon was not the inspirational and benevolent demon had hoped him to be, as Mammon turned out to be abusive, strict, and hostile towards Fizzarolli and everyone else working under him at Loo Loo Land. After years of serving Mammon, Fizz began demanding that the King of Greed be paid more. Shortly after, Mammon ordered Fizzarolli to be killed and replaced with a robotic duplicate, claiming no one would tell the difference since imps are easily replaceable and expendable. Although Mammon's underlings failed to kill Fizzarolli, the imp was gravely injured in the assassination attempt. Mammon's assassination attempt devastated Fizzarolli, as he was betrayed by his former idol who he saw as a hero.

Mammon remained unaware of Fizzarolli's surival and that Asmodeus, his fellow Ringleader has taken him into his wing. That was until Giulia unknowningly revealed to the King of Greed that Fizzarolli is alive. Mammon reacted with considerable rage to hear this that he beat and berated his posse for their incompotence, which distracted him long enough for Ebony to free and take Charlie's Angels to safety. Determined to end Fizzarolli once and for all, he immediately ordered his posse to go and finish him off, disregarding that he is under protection of his fellow Ringleader.

Others[]

Charlie Magne[]

Mammon consistently positions himself as an uncle and mentor figure in Charlie's life, subtly aiming to influence her towards a more unscrupulous path in business. He frequently criticizes Charlie's altruistic ventures in a brash manner, dismissively referring to her hotel as an "orphanage" and "soup kitchen," and labeling her kindness as a temporary "phase" destined to fade away. Similar to her father, Charlie finds Mammon's company irksome, openly denouncing his advice as "bullshit." Despite her disdain, she reluctantly makes half-hearted attempts to endure his presence out of principle.

(the audience roars with cheering as Mammon shoots a firework in the sky that displays Fizz's face; Fizz stares up at the display with an awestruck expression as Mammon sets him down and goes backstage with him)
Fizzarolli: T-... Thank you for this, sir. This is the greatest day of my life!
Mammon: Plea$ure'$ all mine, bucko! Y'know what? $ince you've been $uch a good patron, how would ya like to work for me at Loo Loo Land one day?

(he puts his hand back in) Aha! There it i$! (he pulls out a dead fish) Eh, there it i$n't. (he begins throwing random objects out of the hat, including a shoe horn, a drum, occult symbols, a Mammon action figure, contracts, and a large bag of gold) Where the Heaven i$ it?! (he pulls out a vibrator and promptly throws it away, laughing sheepishly) Hehe, how'd that get in there? Eh, let'$ keep that one between u$, eh, kid? (he continues rummaging through the hat) Ah-ha! (he finally pulls out his desired item; a dollar bill, and places it in Fizzarolli's hand) Hold onto that, and when you get ju$t a little bit older, tell 'em Mammon $ent ya. (he puts his hat back on and winks) You're gonna go far, kid!
Fizzarolli: Mammon, this is... This is... (with tears in his eyes) Thank you.
Mammon: Ah, it'$ nothin'. I got more money than I know what to do with!
Fizzarolli: You know... Growing up, I never had a dad. I don't know what I did to make him leave. But whenever I watched your concerts, I always saw you as kind of like my dad. You know what I mean?
Mammon: Your 'dad' clearly didn't de$erve you. Y'know what I $ay? Hi$ lo$$. Fuck him. I'd give up all the money I've ever earned to have a loyal $on like you. (Fizzarolli tearfully embraces Mammon, who slowly smiles evilly when Fizz isn't looking)
"
— A flashback depicting Fizzarolli meeting Mammon for the first time after one of Mammon's concerts, and the beginning of his start of darkness.

Chapter 5[]

"Thank ya! Thank ya! And don't forget to inve$t in Mamcoin and my new line of NFT$! "Ah... I love the $mell of profit$ in the morning!"

(Mammon laughs very loudly and is soon joined by Larson, Calliope and Tingles, who pop up on his shoulders as Mammon wraps his many arms around them; Charlie's Angels look at them in disbelief while Giulia stifles a laugh) Comedy fucking gold! (Mammon wipes a solid gold tear from his face, placing it in his wallet) Point i$, you kid$ better talk or you'll end up like poor old Fizzarolli...
Giulia: Uh... (she giggles) Fizarolli is still alive.
Mammon: (a loud, glass shattering sound effect plays as Mammon's eyes widen; Larson, Calliope and Tingles have looks of unbridled fear and terror on their faces) ...$ay that again, kid.
Giulia: Fizzarolli is still alive! Plus, he's got these dope robot arms now and he's doing better than ever! You're not very good at your job, big guy.
Mammon: (he shifts into his Full Demon Form, strangling Larson, Calliope and Tingles and surrounding himself and them in green hellfire) HE WHOOOOOOOOOOT?!?!?!
"
— Mammon discovers that Fizzarolli is still alive.
"Mammon: (at a meet and greet, Mammon is approached by a little imp girl with a cleft lip, making him recoil in disgust) 'Ello little... Creature. Whaddya gotta $ay to the big clown?
Little Girl: I wanna be just like you one day!
Mammon: (laughs forcefully) I 'ate to break to ya, $weet'eart, but ya just don't got the face for it, okay? (Mammon holds up a finger as the girl has sad puppy dog eyes) Al$o, you're a girl. And girl$ ju$t ain't funny. Everybody know$ that. But ya know what i$ funny? (Mammon cartoonishly stretches the girl's body and slingshots her off-screen) THI$! "
— Mammon at a meet and greet.

(Mammon, Larson, Calliope, and Tingles all cackle loudly while Mammon uses his hands to strangle them with laughter) Comedy gold!"
— Mammon "joking".
"Mammon: (he begins singing on his guitar) ♬ Lar$on, Tingle$, Calliope, me favorite ¢unt$... / I've alway$ loved your zany, $hockjock $tunt$... / But ye better get your fuckin' a$$e$ over here / OR THE CON$EQUENCE$ WILL BE DEEEEEEAR- ♬

Mammon: (he vibe checks Larson on the head with his guitar, burying Larson a thousand miles underground) WHAT DID I FUCKIN' $AY ABOUT TALKIN' WHEN I'M $INGIN'?!?!
Larson: (after a brief pause, Larson crawls out of the hole, Robo Fizzes dancing over his head) What do ya want b- boss...?
Mammon: Fizz think$ he'$ $afe with Ozzie, but he'$ 'bouta get a na$ty reality check! I want you ¢unt$ to bring him back to Greed.
Larson: Eeehhh, but Ozzi kinda had a point. Fizz paid his debt reaal good. How do ya supposin' we put him back in debt?
Mammon: I dunno, glue the ¢unt$ fuckin' limb$ back to hi$ body, I don't give two $hit$ whatcha gotta do!
Calliope: W- What about Ozzie?

(Mammon leaps into the air and teleports away in an explosion of green smoke)
"
— Mammon tasking his goons with taking Fizzarolli.

???[]

"Leviathan: (looking over at Mammon, who is ravenously eating chimpkin nuggets) Ye been sendin' more bandits into Envy, clown?
Mammon: (looks over at Leviathan, a nugget hanging from his mouth) Ha! How fuckin' long it take ya to find out, shrimp boy?
Leviathan: Not too long... Yer crew proved to be quite the squealers when I had hold of 'em. They woulda done ANYTHIN' to live, even spillin' all yer beans ta me...
Mammon: (enraged) You didn't...
Leviathan: (chuckles darkly) Spare me. Ye be the one sendin' them on a ill-fated voyage, pillagin' spoils of Envy what be mine alone... But, ye did give me some fools to make an example of, so I should be thankin' ye.
Mammon: (he gets up from his chair, angry) How bloody DARE YOU!!! Tho$e men... Tho$e BLOODY ₵UNT$ OWED ME 500 $QUID!!! THAT'S 500 $QUID I'LL NEVER $EE!!!
Leviathan: Then you BEST (the sides of his mouth split into large teeth, eyes appearing on his body as he sizes Mammon up) keep yer paltry men out of me ring, or ye won't be livin' to see any of your precious riches again.
Mammon: That a fuckin' threat, little mermaid?! Why don't ya crawl back up Azathoth's bumhole, fuckwit?!
Leviathan: (the tentacles on his tailcoat extend and slam onto the stone ground, leaving massive cracks) I'd watch that tongue of yers, ye blubberin' clown, or I'll have it cut from yer mouth and fed to the fish. (he practically headbutts Mammon; eldritch tone) So why don't ye crawl yer way over to a SALAD and gorge yerself 'till ya don't bring down our image, ye useless, pathetic, capitalistic SWINE?!?!
Asmodeus: (calmly looking over at them while counting Lucifer's rubber ducks) Ahem... Mind taking your tea party elsewhere? It's hard enough countin' all of Luci's rubber ducks... again. Or you could start hate-fucking. (he grins slyly) That's be pretty entertaining.
"
— Leviathan confronts Mammon.

Quotes Pertaining to Mammon[]

"Swinders, gold diggers, and floozies, the moment you've all been waiting for; give a warm welcome to the King of Greed, the Sovereign of Samolians, the Pied Piper of Pocketbooks, the Ambassador of Avarice, the number one of ol' Luci himself, and, of course, your almighty ruler for all eternity... MAAAAA-MMOOOOOOON!!!"
— Wally Wackford's introduction of Mammon before his performance at a concert.

Trivia[]

  • He is based on the demon of the same name, who, in the New Testament, is depicted as the Demon Prince of Greed, and is an entity that promises money and material wealth to others and is often associated with the greedy pursuit of gain.
    • Mammon's name in Hebrew translates to "money", which has then been adopted in modern Hebrew to also mean "wealth". His name also means "wealth regarded as an evil influence or false object of worship and devotion".
      • His name may be a play of the word "Mamón", which is a Spanish word/insult used to describe someone who is incredibly annoying or pesters others just for the sake of it, which aligns with Mammon's personality.
  • His theme song would either be "Moneytalks" by AC/DC or "How Bad Can I Be?" from The Lorax.
  • Each of the Ringleaders are themed after a particular circus performance; in Mammon's case, he represents clowns/jesters, as well as merchandisers.
    • Each Ringleader is also themed after a particular genre of music, Mammon's being rock 'n' roll and hard/glam rock.
  • In the Hellaverse canon, Mammon has many similarities to a spider, notably his extra arms, lounging in a spider's web, and growing pincers in his Full Demon Form. In Journey to the Light, Mammon instead has a dragon motif, such as his greedy nature, command over an army of demonic dragons, pyrokinesis, and his Full Demon Form greatly resembling a dragon.
    • Mammon's true, draconic appearance and his affinity for dragons in general, is a nod to European folklore, where dragons were regarded for their penchant for pilfering and amassing precious treasures, including livestock and noblewomen, particularly those of high status. Dragons were often regarded as personifications of avarice in European mythology, a perception that persisted until the 17th century.
  • In a general sense, Mammon can be considered the catalyst of Blitzø's side of the story; Had it not been for Mammon corrupting Fizzarolli and turning him against Blitzø, the latter would have never abandoned his life in the Greed Ring, meaning he would have never adopted Loona, made his deal with Stolas, or employ Moxxie and Millie, and as a result, I.M.P would have never existed (assuming that starting an assassination business wasn't Blitzø's plan from the beginning).
  • Mammon is one of the most overtly cartoony characters in the series as almost all of his movements are heavily exaggerated (such as twisting his limbs in unnatural ways and popping his head off) and nearly every action he performs is accompanied by a stock sound effect. This is most likely due to his nature of being a clown demon.
  • Mammon having a two-faced head is a reference to the Mayor of Halloween Town from The Nightmare Before Christmas, who similarly had two faces to convey emotions.
    • It also referencing certain mythologies where Mammon is often depicted as a two-headed eagle.
  • All $100 souls in Hell have his face printed on them.
  • Mammon is the most openly disliked member within the Sins' circle; all of them loathe him for his constant meddling and exploitation of rings outside Greed, or for personal reasons (such as him copying Lu Lu World, or the abuse of Fizzarolli for Asmodeus). Within their inner circle, he is even more hated than Leviathan is.
  • During meet and greets, Mammon signs his autographs using vanishing ink that fades within a day, allowing him to scam his fans.
  • Despite his insatiable greed, Mammon significantly values gold and jewels above paper money. He even makes cigars that are made up of rolled-up souls (the currency of the Hell which resembles dollar bills), showing his disregard for paper money in general.
  • Mammon's role in Chapter 5 was originally going to be significantly larger, with there being an entire arc with him holding Angel Dust, Husk, Vaggie and Fergus hostage in the Mint City Casino, in addition to him battling Husk in a high-stakes gambling contest and having a final confrontation with Blitzø and Fizzarolli.
  • Mammon is a symbolic villain in that, along with being the embodiment of greed, he is also meant to represent celebrities who exploit, prey on, and groom their fans. Indeed, the manner in which Mammon manipulated Fizzarolli is extremely similar to the ways that some powerful and influential celebrities prey on their fans, such as him manipulating Fizzarolli's blind devotion, taking him backstage, and offering him a position as his employee, as well as lying to Fizz about who he truly was.
  • He has several pet dragons which he sends out to plunder riches from across Hell, commanding them to lay waste to anyone who gets in their way. One of these dragons could be seen at Loo Loo Land's petting zoo.
  • From Chapters 3-4, Mammon spoke with a slight New York accent, like most of the Greed Ring's denizens. In Chapter 5, he speaks with a broad Australian accent.
  • He once commissioned a golden palace for Lucifer.
  • He owns a cereal brand called Greed Seed, as well as beverages called Mammon Cola and Madcap Vodka.
  • On Mammon's dollar bills, a Latin motto is written below the sigil of Baphomet, it reads "In nomine Dei nostri Satanas Luciferi excelsi", which translates roughly to "In the name of our Lord Satan, the Great Bringer of Light."
  • According to one of Tingles' Sinstagram stories, Mammon is secretly incredibly obese from eating too much WackDonald's and drinking too much Madcap Vodka. While in public, he used to hide his large appearance using magical sashes he ties around his waist.
  • Mammon is banned from the Envy Ring since Leviathan discovered that Mammon was behind Envy's recurring pirate problem, which he sends to steal Envy's riches for himself.
  • Fergus used to work under Mammon as a pirate, sailing the treacherous seas of Envy, pillaging the ring's treasures and bringing them back to Greed.
  • It is twice implied that Mammon pleasures himself with vibrators; while rummaging through his hat to look for a dollar, he accidentally pulled out a vibrator and sheepishly told Fizzarolli to keep it a secret, and later, Blitzø refers to Robo Fizz, a sex robot, as "Mammon's Vibrator".
  • Mammon's signatures always include a small doodle of his face next to it.
  • According to the series' creators, Mammon would definitely sell NFTs, and while he would see no inherit value in them, he is always up for a quick and easy money laundering scheme. They later added that he would likely be "NFT bros" with Belphegor.
    • Indeed, Mammon promotes his own line of NFTs in "A Complete Shitshow", as well as his own cryptocurrency "Mamcoin", a clear parody of Bitcoin.
