- "I'm awfully glad you asked that, Al! Awfully glad! I say this underdog of a princess juuuust might be the salvation of sinnerkind! The reprobates of today should be grateful that opportunity knocks on their door, whereas before it was only indolence, bedlam and depravity. This colorful cast of cretins sure put the "has-been" in Hazbin Hotel! Nyuk-nyuk-nyuk-nyuk!"
- — Mic.
Mike, known in Hell as Mic, is a recurring character in Hazbin Hotel: Journey to the Light.
He is Alastor's sentient radio staff that accompanies him everywhere he goes.
In life, he was Alastor's broadcast sidekick, but Alastor knew he was quickly on the road to Hell when he began murdering people, so he murdered Mike and condemned his former chum to Hell, cursing him to take the form of a microphone, awaiting Alastor's arrival so he could live out his existence as the Radio Demon's everyday carry.
Goofy, fast-paced, and cryptic, he is the best sidekick a depraved Radio Demon could ask for, and has knowledge of many of Alastor's darkest secrets.
Personality[]
- "Thanks fer the flatterin' introduction, Mic~ You're really a doll, if ya think about it."
- — Mimzy.
Mic, with his flamboyant demeanor and whimsically morbid humor, seems like he was plucked straight out of the Depression era. He's the kind of microphone who can charm a crowd with his fast-paced speech and over-the-top antics. He also notable has a more optimistic view of the Hazbin Hotel than his afterlife-long partner, noting that he believes Charlie could very well be the salvation to sinners.
Despite his goofy exterior, Mic can be a cryptic figure, holding all of Alastor's darkest secrets close to his heart and getting defensive when the hotel's inhabitants, such as Vaggie, get too nosy. Despite being chummy with Alastor, Mic does seem fairly fearful of what Alastor is capable of, warning everyone to stay out of the Radio Demon's way, knowing first-hand the extend of Alastor's sadism and bloodlust.
In contrast to Alastor's nonchalant demeanor, Mic's attitude takes a sharp turn when others attempt to pry into Alastor's secrets. Rather than maintaining his usual whimsical charm, Mic can become defensive and catty, guarding Alastor's mysteries with a fierce protectiveness and weariness. When confronted with inquiries about his friend, Mic offers cryptic and vague warnings, his nervousness peeking through his façade of confidence. Despite his apprehension, Mic never fully drops his guard, deflecting serious questions with a barrage of jokes and witty remarks, annoying people until they go away.
Like any loyal sidekick, Mic plays the role of a yes-man to Alastor, eagerly setting the stage for his friend's darkly comedic humor. He intentionally sets up situations where Alastor can riff off his antics. One example was when he played dead when Alastor asked if he was on during Charlie's nervous speech attempt to rally sinners, providing the perfect opportunity for Alastor to mock Charlie's nervous and meek speech and teach the princess to be more abrasive. Mic's loyalty to Alastor is unwavering, even if it means keeping secrets that could send shivers down the spines in even the most hardened sinners.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Acoustokinesis: Mic possesses a diverse array of sound effects which he can project through his microphone, including echoing voices, canned audience laughter, the haunting screams of Alastor's victims, and the crackle of radio transmissions.
- Sound Amplification: Mic possesses the ability to function akin to a microphone, enhancing the voice of whoever communicates through him. He has the capacity to elevate the volume of a speaker to levels audible from several towns away, and can also transmit voices and sounds across all radios within the Pride Ring.
Relationships[]
Allies[]
Alastor[]
Mic and Alastor are a fairly inseparable, goofy pair, their banter lighting up the room wherever they went. In life, Mic, occasionally Alastor's co-host on his radio show, spoke and jested in sync with Alastor's wicked humor. However, their camaraderie took a dark turn when Alastor, consumed by madness, murdered Mic and condemned his soul to inhabit a cursed microphone within Hell. With that, Mic remained at Alastor's side permanently, a mocking reminder of their once vibrant partnership.
Despite his grim fate, Mic appears unfazed by Alastor's malevolent deeds, continuing to project his tunes and screams of his victims, and echoing his sinister humor as they both revel in the hotel's misfortunes. However, beneath the façade of camaraderie, Mic harbors a latent fear of Alastor, or at the very least, a wariness of the dark secrets his friend guards, as he is reluctant to divulge these truths to others for fear of incurring the Radio Demon's wrath. Mic treads carefully, concealing his apprehension beneath a veil of laughter and constant shitty jokes.
Trivia[]
- His name is a shortened version of "microphone", and an obvious play on his human name "Mike".
- Mic is capable of moving on his own by hopping around on his staff, though his balance isn't very good due to only having one "leg" to stand on. If he falls to the ground, he is pretty much stuck that way until someone turns him upright.
