— Simon, Fergus, and Baxter upon the introduction of the Queen Spider.

The Queen Spider was a minor antagonist in Hazbin Hotel: Journey to the Light, serving as the main antagonist of the episode "Apple of my Eye".

The Queen Spider was a gigantic, legendary alien spider who resided in the dimension of Purgatory, and was the de-facto ruler of Araneae, having obtained the position after devouring nearly the entirety of the planet's population.

Biography[]

Background[]

The Queen Spider likely existed in Purgatory long before it revealed itself to the public. Thousands of years ago, the Queen Spider crash-landed on the planet Araneae, where it began terrorizing the entire planet by devouring all of its inhabitants. Eventually, the Queen Spider spread its young across the entire world, residing in a massive den within a cave system, resting while its young captured prey and brought it to their progenitor. The Queen Spider and its billions of children effectively wiped out nearly all of the sapient life on the entire planet, with only a few hundred people and animals left alive, constantly hiding in fear of the Queen and its young. Those who managed to escape Araneae were only capable of spreading word of a "monster" what had invaded to planet.

Events of Hazbin Hotel: Journey to the Light[]

In the present, the Queen Spider's offspring attempted to capture Vaggie and the seven angels and bring them to the Queen to be used as food. Prioritizing the safety of the children, Vaggie ordered them to run, and they reluctantly did as they were told. Vaggie stayed behind to buy the children as much time as possible to escape, but was overpowered and taken back to the Queen's lair. Meanwhile, the children, left alone, were possessed by Satan to be used as leverage against Angel Dust. When released, the children were unable to remember what happened to Vaggie, due to the effects of Satan's possession. However, Megara is able to remember what planet they were last on, and Angel Dust, Husk, Cherri Bomb, Fergus, Niffty, Charlie, Baxter, and Crymini travel to the planet Araneae to rescue Vaggie.

In "The Apple of My Eye", the Happy Hotel crew travel to Araneae using Baxter's ship. Fergus recognizes the name of the planet due to overhearing locals' conversations, and briefs the crew on the history of the planet and the rumors of its de-facto ruler, who is only said to be a monster. Angel Dust notices that Charlie seems nervous about seeing Vaggie again. Charlie confesses, saying that it has been eight years since she's last seen Vaggie, and their last interaction was not a positive one. Fortunately, Charlie perks up after Angel reassures her. The princess attempts to keep the seven angels in the ship with Baxter and the others, but Fergus talks her into letting them come with them, saying that surveying the planet might job their memory on where Vaggie might be. Afterward, the team ventures outside of Baxter's ship, leaving the scientist alone with Crymini, Manco, and Niffty.

The crew walk across the plains of the dead planet, which is littered with thousands of bones of the creatures and people the Queen and its offspring have devoured. The team are eventually forced to seek shelter in a nearby cave after it begins to rain acid. As they continue searching, Amelia's memories begin coming back, and she claims that they were in the location they saw Vaggie. Suddenly, Husk is bitten on the leg by a hand-sized spider. Fergus converts his robotic arm into a blaster and kills the spider with a single blast, but Husk falls to the ground, unable to move, seemingly from the venom that was spreading from the bite. Acting quickly, Angel Dust sucks the poison out while making suggestive comments to annoy Husk, stopping the infection, although Husk is still unable to move, so Fergus carries him. Just then, thousands of spiders begin to invade the room, and Fergus decides it's time to leave and attempts to run off, but Charlie stops him as they have yet to rescue Vaggie. As the rest of the team races down a narrow passageway, Angel Dust and Cherri Bomb decide and stay and fight to give the team some time. During this, Angel gets separated from Cherri, and is surprised to see that the spiders do not attack him, as they seemingly believe that he is one of them.

After running even deeper into the cave, the team finds themselves in a massive cave system, where they discover thousands of various animals and Araneae's inhabitants wrapped in a strange silk-like material, with all of them comatose and unresponsive. The team spreads out to search for Vaggie, and Charlie eventually finds her in a comatose state. Just then, the entire cave begins to shake, and after a moment of suspense, the Queen Spider makes its appearance, horrifying the hotel crew, especially Fergus, who alerts Baxter to the Queen over their communication devices. The Queen Spider attempts to devour the seven angels, but Fergus distracts the Queen by shooting at it with his robotic arm cannon. The crew splits up to escape the Queen, with Charlie ordering Fergus to get Husk and the children back to Baxter's ship. Charlie carries Vaggie out of the other side of the den. The Queen Spider notices that Vaggie is gone, and emits a telepathic humming sound that attracts hundreds of its offspring to search for the intruders, as it crawls into a nearby hole.

Charlie carries Vaggie into a secluded part of the cave and wakes her up. Vaggie awakens, confused and disoriented, at first thinking Charlie is a hallucination, and begins panicking when she finds out the princess is real and the children are gone, although she settles down when Charlie informs her that the children are safe, for the most part. However, they are given no reprieve as the Queen's children invade the chamber. Charlie attempts to use her demonic powers to non-lethally subdue the children, while Vaggie slays the hoard using her spear. While fighting side-by-side, Charlie and Vaggie start arguing after Charlie asks Vaggie why she left the hotel crew those eight years ago. Vaggie furiously says that she knew the crew had no chance of escaping Purgatory, so she stopped trying and disbanded from them. When Charlie confronts her on why she took the seven angels, Vaggie says that she was the only one qualified to protect them, especially since Charlie had enough on her hands protecting Manco and everyone else on the team aren't exactly role models. Charlie and Vaggie eventually retreat into another chamber, with the princess using telekinesis to block the entrance with a boulder. Despite their differences, Charlie and Vaggie settle their argument and agree to take out the Queen together. Vaggie arms herself with her angelic spear and a shield which she crafts from a boulder, and the two go out to battle.

While cautiously walking through the cave, Vaggie admits that it was fun "having kids", before back-tracking due to her choice of wording. Charlie comforts her by saying that she loved taking care of Manco as well. Charlie and Vaggie have an awkward, yet tender moment when the princess asks Vaggie if she would like to share a kid together, but the moment is interrupted as the Queen crawls out of a hole behind Charlie. Vaggie, noticing the Queen first, tries to alert the princess, but the alien arachnid immediately subdues Charlie by spraying her with a web that pins her against a nearby wall. Vaggie leaps at the Queen and successfully severs one of its legs off using her spear, causing the queen to screech in agony. The Queen grabs Vaggie using its pincers and violently throws the sinner into a wall in retaliation, but Vaggie recovers and dodges all the Queen's blows, finally freeing Charlie by using her spear to cut the princess free. Unfortunately, the Queen's shrieks of pain alert its army of children, who pour in to assist their Queen. While fighting the Queen and its children back-to-back with Charlie, Vaggie agrees to have a child with Charlie, on the condition that they are better parents than the Queen Spider, which causes Charlie to laugh and smile. While the two were staring wistfully at each other, Queen successfully sprays the two of them into a wall together using its webs. As the Queen observes, its offspring cover Charlie and Vaggie and begin slowly eating away at them as they scream in agony.

Suddenly, Angel Dust appears and reveals himself to the Queen, catching the attention of it and its offspring, who cease their attack on Charlie and Vaggie. Angel Dust attempts to convince the Queen that he is one of its children, which seems to barely work before the Queen stares intently at Angel and attempts to telepathically communicate with him. When Angel miserably fails to give it a telepathic response, the Queen becomes aware of his scheme and attempts to crush him. Angel evades the attack and gives Fergus his cue, to which he leaped out of nowhere, screaming wildly while armed with Vaggie's spear. Before the Queen could react, Fergus plunges the spear into the back of the Queen's head, causing it to thrash around and screech in agony. Fergus removes the spear from the Queen's head, giving Cherri Bomb the opportunity to leap overhead and toss a bomb through the wound in the Queen's head, causing the Queen's entire head to explode, killing it.

Legacy[]

Furious and in mourning over their progenitor's death, the Queen's children attack Angel, Cherri, and Fergus. While their attackers are distracted, Charlie summons uses her pyrokinesis to melt the Queen's webs, freeing herself and Vaggie. Charlie tells Vaggie to cling onto her, and she does. Charlie then telekinetically flings Angel, Cherri, and Fergus outside of the chamber to safety and shouts at the two to get out of the cave as fast as possible, and they run off. As the Queen's children charge at her, Charlie conjures a protective, thin shield around herself and Vaggie, and concentrates her immense power to form a powerful omnidirectional blast of fire that incinerates the Queen's offspring instantly and destroys the Queen's den.

Charlie and Vaggie painfully crawl their way out of the rubble of the Queen's destroyed den, both of them coughing, injured, and breathing heavily after the whole ordeal. After catching their breaths, Charlie and Vaggie turn to look at each other. Their feelings for each other reignited, they embrace in a passionate kiss

Appearance[]

The Queen Spider was a gigantic, roughly 20 foot alien spider with blood-red fur and a black underbelly, eight red eyes, and eight woolly legs with sharp pincers. It had a lower jaw under its chelicerae filled with rows of razor-sharp teeth. The Queen had a smaller cephalothorax compared to its larger abdomen. The Queen can shoot webs out of its mouth to trap its prey, and can open its spinneret to give birth to its young.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Longevity: According to what remained of Purgatory's scattered populace, the Queen lived on Araneae for thousands of years, subsisting off of the animals and people within.
  • Superhuman Durability: The Queen's body was much hardier and more resistant to conventional forms of physical injury than the body of a normal spider. The Queen was capable of withstanding the energy blasts of Fergus' robotic arm cannon, which are capable of blasting apart concrete walls, yet only served to anger and slightly stun the Queen than actually damage it, and it had no reaction to Vaggie violently kicking its head. However, despite its great durability, the Queen's skin was not impervious against Vaggie's angelic spear, which she used to sever one of its legs from its body, and Fergus later used the same spear to fatally injure the Queen by stabbing it through the back of the head.
  • Superhuman Strength: The Queen was capable of hurling several massive rocks at Charlie and Vaggie, effortlessly lifting them overhead with its pincers.
  • Telepathy: The Queen could telepathically communicate with its young, inducing them into carrying out its orders, as well as summoning them to it. It also discovered that Angel Dust was in fact not one of its children by attempting to communicate with him. Whenever the Queen used its telepathy, a strange humming noise could be heard.
  • Wall-Crawling: The Queen Spider could adhere to surfaces in order to scale them and easily maneuver around the holes within its cave.
  • Web Generation: As a spider-like alien, the Queen was capable of shooting out webs using a gland in its mouth. The Queen could shoot out its webs for a prolonged period which would wrap around its prey in a cocoon, or shoot its webs out in quick succession, sticking the targets into a certain surface.

Abilities[]

  • Massive Size: The Queen could use its towering height offensively as a method to effortlessly overpower its opponents and larger prey.

Trivia[]

  • Although it resembles a spider, the Queen had a number of odd anatomical features that revealed it to be an alien. Besides its immense size, it had a toothy lower jaw under its chelicerae, and a silk gland inside of its mouth, and it gave birth to its young directly from its spinneret, rather than needing to lay eggs.
  • The idea of the Queen was inspired by Shelob from The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien.
