- "When I was alive, someone hurt me. Someone I thought I could trust and hold dear. Even when I made it to the good place, I was so... ANGRY. Getting back was all I thought about. Archangel Azrael didn't approach me. I approached him and made the vow of The Powers myself. I didn't care about all the broken bones or the flying suicides, as long as it brought me closer to settling the score. And when that time came, and I butchered them... In that moment, I didn't care if it was 'divine justice' or just nasty, cold, hard revenge. ...But, after that, I.. Realized I couldn't just hang the mask up and kick back on a sunny beach for eternity. But I'm not 'stuck' here. Now, I have a responsibility to you, my sisters-in-arms. To stand beside you, spear in hand, and ensure our armies' prosperity. And that's that."
- — Sable explaining her backstory to the other Exorcists.
Sable is a minor character in Hazbin Hotel: Journey to the Light.
Sable was a winner and mid-ranking Exorcist who was put on a marked-for-death "scouting mission" with Ebony, among others. While on that mission, she developed a brief, but strong friendship with Ebony.
Biography[]
Background[]
In life, Sable was hurt and murdered by a group of people she believed she could trust (likely a friend or lover along with a group of their friends). Even after ascending to Heaven, her anger and desire for revenge consumed her. She voluntarily joined the Exterminators, driven by a desire for revenge. During one cleanse, she finally exacted her revenge in an extremely brutal and sadistic manner, toeing the line between divine justice and revenge.
Despite achieving her goal, she realized that once one becomes an Exterminator, they can never leave. Despite now being struck in a cycle of exterminating demons and relentless training, she grew a sense of responsibility to her fellow Exterminators, standing beside them and ensuring their success.

Chapter 5[]
In "A Simple Scouting Mission", Sable and Raven are overlooking their unit before what they believe will be a "scouting mission" to retrieve angelic weapons from a small gang in Hell. Sable approaches Ebony, a rookie Exorcist and the team's caretaker, and warmly introduces herself. Ebony is taken aback and elated at Sable's friendliness, a stark contrast to the harsh treatment from other soldiers. Raven rudely interrupts to two, dumping horse care supplies into Ebony's arms and overwhelming her with a long list of duties. By the time Raven is done explaining, Ebony is speechless with a swirly-eyed mask. When Raven becomes angry at this, Sable suggests to Raven that she shouldn't overload Ebony with information all at once and offers to help Ebony review her schedule and duties more gradually.
Later, the team travels to Hell on horseback, using the cover of night to elude demon eyes. As dawn approaches, they take shelter in a cave. Once night falls, the Exterminators gather around a fire to share stories of their demon-slaying exploits. Ebony, assigned to clean their mounts, watches from afar and observes their quirks and backstories. After finishing her tasks, she joins them by the fire. Sable opens up about her past as a winner who was murdered in her life by people she trusted, and later getting her revenge by killing them in the afterlife as an Exorcist. She brags about her mother, a renowned Exterminator, hoping to impress them. Later, while keeping watch alongside Sable, Ebony shares a heart-to-heart with her. Sable reveals that she knows Ebony's mother was actually a medic and encourages Ebony to be herself. Sable reassures Ebony that everyone in their squad has their own quirks and flaws, lifting Ebony's spirits.
The next day, as they fly to the location of the stashed holy arms, Sable assigns positions, but her orders are interrupted when one Exterminator is sniped out of the air, sending the squad into chaos. Overwhelmed, Ebony follows Sable's stern orders to get into position, using the woods near the factory as cover. They all gaze at their target, a factory overtaken by the Insurgency. When Sable gives the orders to move in stealthily and killing their targets one-by-one, Ebony bashfully interjects and admits she dislikes killing, frustrating the team, sans Sable, who compromises, telling Ebony to stay back with the horses.
Despite Sable and the teams initially stealthy approached, a battle soon begins, the squad is brutally attacked by the Insurgency, who were far better equipped than Lute had told them. Sable fought strongly and viciously, slaughtering multiple enemies in succession, before having to hide behind cover as the Insurgency's reinforcements. During this, she witnesses many of her teammates' deaths, including Blade. During the battle, a severely wounded Exorcist, Grey, weakly calls out for Sable to help her. With an emotional look, Sable tries to take her hand, but is pushed back by the Insurgency and Grey is murdered by Rum. Then, Ebony rushes to help, but a demon throws a holy grenade at her feet. Sable flies over, having to kick Ebony out of the blast radius, getting caught in the explosion herself.
Alive but injured, Ebony rushes to Sable's side, only to discover that Sable is missing the entire lower half of her body, clinging onto life. A horrified Ebony realizes that they are surrounded by Insurgency soldiers and, in a moment of desperation, Ebony accidentally creates a flashbang with her light powers, disorienting the soldiers. Realizing what happened, she flies Sable away from the battle, having to leave the rest of the squad to their fate.
A few meters from the factory, Ebony lays the critically injured Sable down, begging her to keep fighting. Sable, choking on blood, tells Ebony that they are disposable to their superiors and urges her to escape the life of an Exterminator. Ebony continues begging for Sable to hold on, saying that she is the only friend she has, not even realizing initially that Sable has already succumbed to her injuries.
Personality[]
Unlike many Exterminators, Sable was rather warm and friendly to her fellow sisters-in-arms, showing kindness to Ebony in contrast to the harsh treatment she usually receives from other soldiers. However, she still maintained a grim and harsh brutality to herself, this included a willingness to slaughter, and complete loyalty to her superiors and the Exorcist code. Sable naturally took on a leadership role within her ill-fated squad, organizing their positions during the mission and providing stern yet clear orders under pressure.
She is a pragmatic, disciplined, and highly capable soldier, with a sharp sense of responsibility, as shown by her initial critique of Ebony making herself and Sable neon friendship sweaters, since Ebony spent all night making them and thus her senses could be dulled.
Despite her no-nonsense exterior, Sable has a warm and understanding side, especially when it comes to her companions. She is not rigidly cold; Sable shows a softer, more humorous side when she warms up to the sentiment behind the gesture. She is willing to engage in playful banter and teasing, showing that she enjoys camaraderie and has a deep bond with her fellow Exterminators, particularly Ebony.
Sable was supportive and understanding to Ebony, helping her understand and manage her overwhelming tasks, suggesting a gradual approach to learning her duties after Raven half-haphazardly dumped a very long list of her duties with no warning or further debriefs. She later provided emotional support, reassuring Ebony that she didn't need to pretend to be someone she's not and that everyone in their squad has their own assorted quirks. During her first meeting with Ebony, Sable related to the feeling of being looked down on.
Sable was courageous and protective, and in the heat of battle, she fought bravely and protected Ebony by saving her from a grenade blast, which gravely injured herself and ultimately led to her death.
In the culmination of her final mission, Sable's spirit was shattered when she realized Lute had intentionally ill-equipped her unit and severely undersold them on how powerful their enemy force was, and that the entire mission's purpose was to get Sable and everyone killed to remove the Exorcists of anyone Azrael or Lute deemed "dead weight". In her dying moments, she was straightforward with Ebony about the grim realities of their situation, highlighting the disposability of their lives to their superiors and urging Ebony to escape the life of an Exterminator.

Quotes[]
Chapter 5[]
- "Ebony: (she approaches Sable from behind, holding something behind her back) A-Ahem! (Sable turns to face Ebony, who has a grinning expression) Heeey, Sabe'! Soo, would I get a demerit if I told you I was thinking of making us neon friendship sweaters all last night?
Sable: (she has a raises eyebrow) ...Well, that would be extremely impractical to our mission, not to mention the amount of time it would take to forge such apparel in one night's time would mean you likely had no sleep last night, dampening your senses on a pivotal, black-ops mission... (Ebony just there with a "ˆᵕˆ" face; Sable sighs) You... already made them, didn't you?
Ebony: (she presents the friendship sweater to Blade; it's black, has neon patterns designed to look like blood, and Ebony and Sable's heads on it in chibi style, winking at each other periodically, like a neon billboard sign) Ta-daaa!!!
Sable: (Sable sighs, shaking her head... but smiles warmly at the gift) ...You are somethin' else, you know that?
Ebony: Heheheee! You liiiiike it? I thought our faces would look super cute on a sweater! (she looks at the sweaters sentimentally) I made it for you... We're friends, right? I... Never really had friends in the corps.
Sable: (she sighs, still staring at the sweaters) ...Of course, we're friends. Sisters-in-arms, remember?
Ebony: (she has a "(ಥ‿ಥ)" look on her mask, before letting out a squeal of joy with a "(T▽T)" face) Aaaah!!! FUCK YEAH!!! ...Well? C'mon! Try it on!
Sable: (playfully) Ehhh, you SURE it fits my style, though? (she checks her nails, "haughtily") I've been rockin' this 'stoic, badass, hot girl Exterminator shit' since I got promoted...
Ebony: (she rolls her eyes) Oh, c'mon!!
Sable: (she laughs) How about after we're done getting our shit back, cadet?
Ebony: Ooooh, riiiight. Right, right. But, but you swear to God we'll both rock these once this mission's over, right?!
Sable: (she giggles, crossing her heart before wrapping an arm around Ebony) ...Swear to God." - — Ebony shares a present with Sable.
