- "Your king and creator has been alerted to the presence of eight young angels somewhere in the seven rings. Your objective, if you choose to accept it... (laughs) Just kidding, you don't have a choice. Just a lil' joke. Anyway, your objective is to capture at least one of these angels and bring them back to Bel so that we may encapsulate their incredible holy power and use it to create the ultimate weapons of mass destruction. (hundreds of Scavenger Units are deployed out of a Belphe-Tech base) Scurry along, my pretties! Find those intruding flying rodents and bring them back to your king. Oh, and don't be afraid to get your claws dirty if they try to resist."
- — Karen sending the Scavenger Units to find the seven angels.
Scavenger Units are minor antagonists in Hazbin Hotel: Journey to the Light. They serve as minor antagonists in Chapter 4 and 5.
They were an army of arachnid-like robots who served the King of Sloth, Belphegor, until the King of Sloth's destruction and the subsequent fall of Belphe-Tech. During their years of service, they were peacekeepers within the Sloth Ring, patrolling the streets of their respective ring to enforce the laws of their creator. They had also been used to abduct young Hellhounds from their families to be brought to the Hellhound Adoption Foundation. Lacking the sentience of other Belphe-Tech units, the Scavenger Units followed their orders without thought or feeling, and are widely known for their violent methods of completing tasks.
History[]
Background[]
Scavenger Units were one of millions of robots manufactured by Belphe-Tech. They served as the main enforcers of Belphegor, who trusted them with important missions and objectives. Their primary functions were to maintain peace on the streets of Sloth, shutting down resistances and silencing dissidents to their creator's reign. Seeking to enforce Belphegor's laws on Hellhounds in the Sloth Ring, the Scavenger Units were given to the Hellhound Adoption Foundation to capture young Hellhounds, from the homeless to even ones with perfectly healthy families, and brought them to the foundation to be raised as slaves.
Events of Hazbin Hotel: Journey to the Light[]
Chapter 4[]
In "Dinner and a Show", Belphegor orders Karen to deploy 12% of Belphe-Tech's Scavenger Units across the seven rings to search for Charlie's Angels that Charlie Magne had brought into Hell. Karen soon reports to a Belphe-Tech base housing hundreds of Scavenger Units and informs them of their objective as they deployed and begin searching for the eight angels.
In "Worker Relations", Scavenger Units and employees of the Hellhound Adoption Foundation are depicted in a flashback invading and searching a Hellhound-populated district as part of their mission to take any and all pups. After tearing a pup away from their parents, two agitated Scavenger Units broke into the household and pursued a female Hellhound who attempted to escape with her pup, only for the woman's husband to launch himself from his position and pin the unit against a wall. Due to the extreme stress of the situation, the Hellhound's shock collar was activated, weakening his grip on the unit, which allowed it to regain its footing and stab the Hellhound in the chest with its pointed claws, killing him, before continuing to pursue his wife and pup.
The female Hellhound attempted to escape into the streets, but the stress of the situation activated her shock collar, causing her to collapse to the ground, although she shielded her pup from the impact. As the Hellhound laid on the ground, desperately crying for nearby Hellhounds to take her pup to safety, although it was not long before she was tased and assaulted by several of the foundation's employees, who had nearby robot authorities arrest her for her defiance. Two Scavenger Units and three demonic employees of the foundation surrounded the pup, and one employee reads the pup's nametag "Loona", and says offhandedly that she was "one hell of a catch", before the units took the pup was taken to the foundation.
In "Take Me, Gravity", one Scavenger Units in the Pride Ring manages to spot Charlie's Angels near the Hazbin Hotel. The Scavenger Units sends a homing beacon to its fellow units, and uses its lenses to photograph the angels and send the image to Belphe-Tech, alerting Karen and Belphegor to the angels' location. Lugnut and Claptrap (two of Belphegor's former servants who have secretly defected from Belphegor after befriending the children) detect the Scavenger Units' approaching presence and order the children to hide. They take cover in a car as their area is soon swarmed by Scavenger Units. Lugnut and Claptrap make a plan to distract the Scavenger Units so that the children can make their way to the Hazbin Hotel. Lugnut and Claptrap split from the children and begin making noises such as activating car alarms and throwing trash cans, hiding the whole time to avoid being seen by Belphegor himself, who is watching the event through the Scavenger Units' lenses. However, Simon unintentionally alerts one of the scavenger robots when he and the other angels climbed into a dilapidated store. While the children are in hiding, one units spots them through the window and enters the shop as they split up and hide in different parts of the store. As Belphegor taunts the children and orders them to show themselves, Arthur throws a nearby ball into a window, leading the Scavenger Units away from them as it fled to locate the source of the sound.
The children regroup and begin crawling through the building's ventilation system, with the unit returning and pursuing them through the vent, contorting its body to squeeze through, which leads to the entire vent collapsing. The children frantically run out of the back of the shop, and stop to catch their breaths, but they are given no reprieve as a Scavenger Units appears from out of nowhere, roaring robotically at them, scaring them and sending them scattering. The Scavenger Units gives chase to the terrified children as they run for their lives, attempting to use obstacles to slow the pursuing robot down. At one point, the Scavenger Units managed to grab Simon by the back of the neck, only to be sent flying back by the involuntary defenses of Simon's angelic nature. After a lengthy chase, the Scavenger Unit manages to corner the children, only for Lugnut and Claptrap to destroy it from behind by dismantling it after catching it off-guard. By the time the other robots reach the location of their fallen unit, Lugnut, Claptrap, and the children manage to make it back the hotel for safety. Agitated by the childrens' escape, Belphegor orders Karen to send every deployed scavenger to the Pride Ring to continue their hunt.
In "System Reboot", Karen sends every available Scavenger Unit to destroy Lugnut and Claptrap and take Charlie's Angels. The majority of the units are dealt with by Baxter, Crymini, and Niffty, who destroy Karen's servers and deactivate all the Scavenger Units.
Description[]
Scavenger Units were an army of arachnid-like robots created by Belphe-Tech, the Sloth-based company owned by the ruler of Sloth, Belphegor. They mostly used to patrol the streets of Sloth to scavenge objects or even living creatures that could benefit their creator. They are known to carry out mass kidnappings on homeless Hellhounds to take them to the Hellhound Adoption Foundation to be raised as slaves, or outright stealing young Hellhounds from their families.
Scavenger Units range in size; the Scavenger Units deployed to capture the eight angels were about the size of an average demon, roughly 8 feet tall, while the Scavenger Units used to patrol the streets of Sloth are about the size of a semi-truck.
The Scavenger Units possess a vast array of capabilities; their extra limbs grant them greater mobility, they can contort their entire bodies to enter small spaces such as air vents, can scale nearly any surface using the tips on their claws, project a beam from their lenses that allow them to track their targets' footprints, and can project tractor beams onto objects or living beings that instantly contains them. The Scavenger Units are also used to provide reconnaissance with a live feed projected onto Belphegor's wrist device. Later additions of the Scavenger Units created by Karen were forged with nanotechnology, giving them even greater durability and capabilities.
The Scavenger Units have little personality; they do not speak and lack the sentience of other Belphe-Tech Units. However, their behavior while carrying out their tasks implies that they are capable of superficially sadistic tendencies. As one unit was chasing the angel children, it terrorized them, jump-scaring and roaring at them even when they were in range to be captured. They also have no moral conscious as they are willing to kidnap young Hellhounds from their families, no doubt traumatizing them and handing them over to the Hellhound Adoption Foundation, although this is most likely the fault of their programming and orders.
Powers and Abilities[]
Powers[]
- Anti-Gravity Beam: The Scavenger Units could project tractor beams from their eyes that instantly contain their targets in a ball of energy. This allowed them to transport their target back to their desired locations.
- Enhanced Durability: Scavenger Units possessed noticeably higher durability than other Belphe-Tech machines. When one Scavenger Units was electrocuted when it attempted to grab Simon, activating the angel's involuntary defense, it was sent flying back into a car with enough force to form a massive dent in the vehicle, only to immediately recover and resume its chase, whereas Lugnut and Claptrap were incapacitated for hours when they were zapped by Manco's involuntary defense.
- Enhanced Speed: Scavenger Units possessed great mobility and speed using their extra limbs, with one robot easily keeping up with all of Charlie's Angels even when they attempted to fly away from it.
- Enhanced Strength: Due their robotic physiology, the Scavengers could exert a considerable amount of strength, as well restrain their targets with little to no effort.
- Homing Beacon: Whenever a single Scavenger Units required assistance from its fellow units, they were capable of sending a homing beacon to the other units, which allowed them to signal in and report to their location.
- Scorpion Cannon: When in combat mode, Scavenger Units could deploy scorpion tail-like cannons that come out of the scavengers' "spinneret". The tails appeared to target enemies with a red spotlight before firing a blast of energy that destroys the target upon contact.
- Thermoreception: Scavenger Units could perceive the body heat of other entities and use it to track them down.
- Wall-Crawling: The Scavengers Units could scale any surface, even suspending themselves upside down, while chasing or creeping up on a target.
Abilities[]
- Expert Trackers: Scavenger Units were master trackers as it is their primary function. They typically tracked their targets' location by scanning their body heat and following their footprints. If in an isolated location with a hiding target, they often employed scout drones to reconfirm their position.
- Intelligence: Scavenger Units possessed high intelligence when it comes to tracking and locating targets, instantly hurrying to the location of a sourced sound, and proceeding to sweep an entire area where they have spotted targets, not leaving until they have located them. While searching they check every available nook and cranny to locate the source of the sound with little regard to giving up on the task at hand.
- Intimidation: Due their capabilities, experience in tracking, lack of emotion, and frightening appearance, Scavenger Units were quite feared by the Sloth's inhabitants. Even Lugnut and Claptrap were shown to be quite cautious around them while protecting Charlie's Angels from being captured by them.
- Natural Weaponry: Most Scavenger Units had razor sharp claws and pointed tips on their legs. These came in handy when having to physically fight a target as well as for scaling surfaces. Their sharp claws also allowed them to mutilate and kill fully-grown demons, including fully-grown Hellhounds.
- Stealth Mastery: Scavenger Units were masters of stealth, sneaking up and surprising their targets despite their large and mechanical nature. When Charlie's Angels briefly hid during an intense chase to catch their breaths, a scavenger was able to sneak up on them by scaling on a large wall the children were leaning on.
Weaknesses[]
- Karen's destruction: When Karen died, all of Belphe-Tech robots and products, including the Scavenger Units shut down as Karen was the one providing them with power.
Quotes[]
Quotes Pertaining to the Scavenger Units[]
- "Amelia: He made those things?!
Lugnut: Just because he's lazy doesn't mean his mind is!" - — Amelia and Lugnut, while hiding from Belphegor's Scavenger Units who were sent to capture the eight angels.
Trivia[]
- Unlike many of Belphe-Tech's artificial intelligence, Scavenger Units lacked sentience and did not speak at all outside of making unsettling, robotic screams or loud buzzing noises.
