Vark is a recurring antagonist in Hazbin Hotel: Journey to The Light.
He is a supporting antagonist in Chapter 1, a minor antagonist in Chapter 2 and 5.
He is Vox's pet hammerhead shark who occasionally accompanies his owner and the other Vees in their various crimes and antics.
Personality[]
In the first four Chapters, Vark appears at first to be a friendly and devoted shark, but can be vicious and aggressive, having similar mannerisms to that of a guard dog. He is seen constantly giving Vox and Velvette his affection by pouncing on them and licking them, as well as snuggling up against them. His loyalty to Vox is unbreakable and he is more than willing to attack and devour any person that his owner orders him to, and does not seem to have any moral problems with murdering and eating people, as one of the punishments of losing Vox's game show is being fed to Vark.
Vark possesses a rather vicious side, as he showed an immense desire to eat Angel Dust's pet pig, Fat Nuggets, while acting as his "warden" after Valentino had kidnapped the pig and kept it hostage. He displays mischievous tendencies, as he is very fond of teasing and messing with Vox by nomming on his screen, swiping food even when it is not his feeding time, or stealing Vox's hat and wearing it to taunt him.
Regardless, he is still very loyal, empathic, and caring toward Vox, as he was shown comforting him after Valentino had smashed his face in. This behavior extends towards Vox's allies, as he is similarly friendly towards Velvette, showering her with kisses.
In Chapter 5, Vark is depicted as an adult hammerhead shark and is significantly more threatening and vicious, with none of his old quirks previously displayed. Still, despite being more menacing, he briefly reverted to his old ways due to Serenity's influence during their fight, unable to resist the seraph's charm.
Appearance[]
In his default form, Vark is a quadruped, sky blue, hammerhead shark with a white underbelly. He stands at around nine feet tall, being slightly shorter than Valentino and a couple heads taller than Vox himself. As a shark, he has a large fin on his back, gills on the side of his neck, and a large tail with a fin on the end. He has large, cartoony eyes, and also possesses arms and legs with large, sharp claws.
Whenever Vark becomes bloodthirsty or angered, he is capable of taking on a far more demonic form, with his eyes glowing bright red, gaining muscle mass, and his claws extending, as well as growing far larger than his normal form.
Powers and Abilities[]
Natural Powers[]
- Amphibiousness: Due to being a demon and shark hybrid, Vark is capable of breathing and easily maneuvering both on land and underwater.
- Demonic Transformation: If Vark smells even the littlest drop of blood, it will automatically transform him into his Full Demon Form and into a berserk, monstrous state. In this state, he will not stop until he eats someone or is tamed.
- Nigh-Invulnerability: As with all demons, Vark is incredibly resilient to blunt force trauma most forms of assault. His skin is bullet-proof, and during the Vees' assault on the Hazbin Hotel, Vark survived being blown several meters in the air by Cherri Bomb's explosives, which are powerful enough to blow full-grown sinners to pieces, and seemed completely fine a few hours afterward.
Unique Powers[]
- Supernatural Strength: Vark is supernaturally strong, as he was shown multiple times to be capable of flinging fully grown sinners around like they were rag dolls, and tear them limb from limb with no effort. His strength increases ten-fold in his fully demonic form, as he was capable of barreling right through a solid wall and flipping multiple cars while on a bloodthirsty rampage.
Abilities[]
- Bite Force: Vark is capable of easily devouring sinners and demons using his large, serrated teeth and powerful jaws, being able to bite down on his victims with enough force to reduce them to bloodied chunks of flesh and bone in mere seconds.
- Expert Swimmer: Being a shark, Vark is naturally an extremely skilled swimmer.
- Natural Weaponry: Vark has a mouth full of razor-sharp teeth, as well as claws at the end of each of his fingers, which he can sink into his victims' flesh and rend it. He possesses a powerful tail that he can use to violently whip his enemies, sending them flying meters away.
Relationships[]
Owner[]
Vox[]
Vox is Vark's owner who he loves very much, in addition to being extremely devoted towards him. Vark's love for Vox is also mutual, as Vark is one of the few things that Vox truly cares about and is extremely close to. Vox heavily spoils Vark with custom collars, dog beds, and even his own large aquarium with many amenities.
Trivia[]
- Despite being a shark, Vark's behavior and mannerisms are very similar to a dog; he begs, whimpers, licks people on the face, loves head pats, wags his tail when excited, and he watches Fat Nuggets like a guard dog when the Vees hold the pig hostage. He is as sneaky — and smart about it — as any hound dog. He is also seen eating from a dog bowl and sleeping in a dog bed, as evidenced by his room in Vox's mansion.
- He has his own week-long television programming block called Vark Week.
- One of his chew-toys is a human-sized ragdoll with a crude crayon drawing of Alastor's face on it.
- Valentino's former pet, Queef, was fed to Vark after Valentino killed it for annoying him.
- It is possible that Vark was born in the Envy Ring, seeing as how most oceanic demons in Hell originate from Envy.
- Vox trained him to attack Alastor on sight.
